A good run by Paula tonight. OK she didn't win, but she showed she has the form, the speed and the stamina. And she seemed hppy and relaxed after the race, even managing a smile. She never acts like that if she is unhappy with a race, so it must have gone to plan, more or less. Good luck for the Marathon now

And yep, well done to Kelly Sutherton too. A damn good day today...shame about the wind in 200m or else her and Carolina would have had amazing times.

I rowed for 5 years, but only cracked 7 mins in the end, getting 6:59.9 on my last 2k test about 15 months ago.

I was only 72kgs though and as i always like to say, ergs dont float :p:

I'm not the biggest fan. I couldn't swim until I was 10 so I've never been that great a swimmer. It's good exercise though.

thats not too bad (assuming you havent had any coaching )

on an erg you can make a massive difference with the correct technique, it pains me (and amuses me immensely) when i see people in the gym plugging away on an erg with crap technique to the extent that they're going a minute slower on the split than they might

i find that best way to do it is in the back seat of a car for maximum energy efficiency.

6:37 is my current PB but I haven't done a 2k in 6 months now, peaked about 2-3 months ago where I reckon I woulda gone under 6:30 but we weren't doing tests then. Next year I'm going for sub 6:20.

to illustrate the ergs dont float philosophy:
we got into henley aged 16 with average ergs in the 8 of 7:20 and were faster than all the oxbridge colleges on the water
