But have a greater incentive to deal with them more effectively and efficiently as they are, in effect a business.

There's a lot more to your school career than the grades you end up with. I went to a private school and i'm not "embarrassed" by only getting ABBB in my A2s. Obviously it's disappointing and there is a sense of "oh no, i've let my parents down" but really i haven't... I'm grateful for the opportunity i had, and i'm not thick for not getting straight As despite being at a private school and i know my parents don't regret it. If it's any consolation my brother got the As and went to Cambridge.....so it was "worth" it in a sense. But i see it more as i maybe i wouldn't have even got the crap grades that i did get had i not been at the school i was in...so it was the right decision anyway.

I got AABB and A*AA predicted for A2. God bless the predicted grade system.

That makes me sick :sigh: I'm having to take a year out because I couldn't get the predicted grades for good ol' Cambridge.

Not necessarily, but it depends on the job. The particular university you went to can affect your application (some won't even consider you if you're not from a a university like Oxbrudge, Durham, York, Warwick etc) why shouldn't the school you went to have just as much influence?

I am well aware of the fact that my cousin whom is privately educated gets three kids in his Spanish class whilst I have twenty-five idiotic peers alongside me asking things like, “How do you say goodbye in Spanish, miss?” But at least I’m predicted an A* whilst my cousin is predicted a B. This is only due to the fact that I revise and work my arse off and my cousin just does nothing. I’m going to say something that scares private school kids... I am working harder at GCSE than you. You never have a pleasure of a maths class with 35 pupils. Nor the pleasure of sharing a maths book with two other people. I’m learning more from an R.E revision guide that I spent my wages on than a R.E teacher so dyslexic she can’t spell bible.

Urm.... yeah but I’m just really glad that the state college I’m going to is better than the private school that I could go into by scholarship. I’d probably strangle any private school kid that makes a jibe about my lack of parental wealth. Let bitterness reign :P

Just because you go to a private school doesn't guarantee you a better headstart to life at a job/uni.

If anything it may disadvantage you compared to a candidate of the same ability if they came from a state, due to the fact that employers/unis might be wary of taking in excess public school students - and get blamed for discrimination.


I'm not saying it always does, but it depends on the job/employer.

Because A levels and GCSEs are ALL THE SAME. Degrees aren't. You are unpleasant.

I'm really not overly jealous; yeah it would have probably been nice but I'm lazy as hell and would have probably ****** up my chances anyway. Plus I had fun at my old school. :dontknow:

I never really understand that argument; I bitch about Princess Di that doesn't mean I want to be royalty. Socialists aren't simply jealous poor people, I'm really not particularly jealous. No more jealous then I am of girls with longer hair and smaller waists tbh..

I don't go to a private school, but I have to disagree with this. If this was true, everyone would want to go to factories Grammar schools. I would have hated that.

I go to a state grammar which is pretty good, but I would have loved to have gone to private school (Queen Ethelburga's in particular due to their Royal Court Equestrian Centre :love:). The opportunities in the way of making contacts and the extra-curriculars on offer sound amazing: enjoying your childhood and education are just as important as the grades you end up with. If I had children and could afford it I'd definitely send them to private school.

I'm unpleasant for regurgitating everything my family and my teachers have told me? How so? And they're not all the same. Different exam boards set different exams, different subjects have different levels of difficulty etc. To say A levels and GCSEs are "all the same" is naive.

I think the school you went to can have a negative impact on your career prospects, particularly if you went to a highly regarded institution and came out with mediocre grades.

I'm predicted 3 A*s and I've been state-educated. This argument is pointless. You get good grades and bad grades in both education systems, and I think people in public schools are right in saying their education, regardless of the grades they recieved, is superior.

School's aren't just about grades.

Private/Public schools offer fantastic facilities and opportunities that might not present themselves if you were to go to state school.

For example, my school was pretty invested in the arts...people would be asked to audition for television, advertisements, musicals, plays etc. Our choirs sang for some Royalty and all sorts of events.

Without intending to get preachy here, but it's about the community and the experience just as much, if not more, than the grades.

When you pay money to go to private school, you're not just buying good grades, but for the entire experience. Learning isn't just about academics!

To be honest, I went to a private school and got 5A's - but I do kind of regret not making full use of everything else that private school had to offer :/

...but they are. Please enlighten me if employers prefer certain exam boards for A levels/GCSEs over another - genuinely I would like to know. Private schools don't have their own special exam board do they.

Well I'm predicted AAA although I majorly ****** up my AS levels by only getting ABCC. Tbh thre's a lot more pressure to do well at private school because of the cost, but as I said on the other thread, the fees aren't just covering the academic education, they're covering the teaching of many other really important life issues, the making of contacts (yes it's a young age) which can come in really handy when you're older, and the fantastic extra-curricular stuff that goes on. That said there are just some retarded people who obviously don't give a **** about the money (like one guy who got DUUU at AS...), but meh, **** 'em.


Do you think this is fair? Doesn't this decrease the ability of poorer children to succeed in life, by giving unwarranted advantages to other children so early in life and confining opportunities to a small, exclusive circle?
