1. can anyone help me on jan 2003 m2 edexcel q 6b i dont get the mark scheme thanks in advance
2. I was just about to come on here and ask the same question. It doesnt make sence in my head at all. I dont belive the particle b has enough momentum to stop particle A before it hits the wall let alone after
3. the speed of Q is 8/9u before hitting the wall. As the coefficient of restitution between Q and the wall is e the speed of Q after hitting the wall is 8/9eu.

Meanwhile P is still travelling at 5/9u. As P will be brought to rest by the second collision the conservation of linear momentum is:

2m(5/9u) + m(-8/9eu) = mw

As e = speed of separation/speed of approach

w/(5/9u + 8/9eu) = 1/3 (as we were told that e between P & Q is 1/3)

therefore w = 10/9u - 8/9eu and w = 5/27u + 8/27eu

solving for e :
32/27eu = 25/27u
e = 25/32
