I'm taking OCR salters chemistry by design and on the specification it says that you need to know "an outline of the process of oxidative cross-linking by which unsaturated oils harden and the relationship of this process to their use as media in oil-based paints".
Could anyone please tell me what oxidative cross-linking is and say what we need to know for that point in the specification?

In short (because i only learnt it briefly myself)
The unsaturated bonds in the fatty acid chains unlock (Because they are polarised by oxygen molecules in the air) and then reform between different chains
So this chain ________________________________ ________

This is a yukky part of the syllabus- I think it is covered in a CD activity analysing paint.. not sure of the right activity number
