Depends on which college you applying to. Some have majority young people others have majority mature (21+) students.

    why??

Im guessing the vast majority - 80plus% are 18/19. Then a small percentage less than 5% being younger than 18, and about 10-15% are 20+

    ^complete and utter guess

If you include staff, it might be around 25ish.

    Otherwise, 18/19

That's just Harris Manchester, though, and as only mature students can apply there, it won't be relevant to Jen unless she's a mature student herself. It's also a very small college, so I doubt it will affect the average age very much, even if there are a few people who are significantly older than 21. The average age of freshers overall is probably still somewhere around 19.

 I think it would be a bit more than that...

Since 40% of Oxford is graduates, then if we're talking all new entrants to the university, its probably pretty high. Unlike undergrads, there's a good number of graduate freshers arriving for DPhils and MPhils aged in the later half of their 20s, I'd say here the average grad fresher age is probably around 24.

    I don't know...

Most of my lecturers are in their mid 40's, even early 40's.
It's not my fault Oxford is full of old people. :woo:

    It's 3:1 in Warwick.

    16,000 students, 5000 staff.

So yes, the average age can be very low in some places.

Which would presumably be fewer than 16000 freshmen. The OP says 1sts years.

Why would the average be 18/19. That is normally the age of first years. What about second and third years who are 19/20 or 20/21?
Now re-read the OP - a bit more carefully.

    thank you!
the reason i'm asking is cause i always had that dream of going to oxford but i won't be able to start my first degree until i'm around 22.. so i was just worried i'd be a grandma as to the rest of the students...

Often mature students (over 21 at the start of their degree) are treated as grad students for social purposes, so you won't feel out of place too much.
