You may be interested in this if you haven't seen it. It's quirky architectural critic's Jonathan Meades' take on Aberdeen:

I haven't visited Aberdeen to date but, as he illustrates, some of the older architecture (including the university of course) does appear distinct.

I've watched Meades's programmes, when they've been on, for many years and quite like his blend of erudition and matter of fact presentation. I think that, with his sober suits and the sometimes surreal (yet nevertheless real) imagery he chooses, he may see himself as a Magritte-like figure. However, one of the annoying things about him, apart from the fact that he refuses to smile, may be that he insists on being like a thesaurus, offering alternative phrases in the same sentence as if his audience may be too stupid to understand the first phrase. However, you could just say that its a theatric flourish, a dramatic embellishment (there- I've done it now) rather than being meant to be patronising.
