I think all of the boards do, but it sometimes has to be determined by non-academic ability (like on Maths, its easily possible for 100 people to get 100%, and so they decide the top 5 on handwriting and other stuff as well.).

But I think all boards award them for at least some of their subjects...

I'm not sure if WJEC give out "top fives".

A boy in my year sat his maths GCSE with me last year and dropped about five UMS points yet I don't believe he got anything in recognition. Of course, that might just be because there were others who only dropped four.

noooo. for fun i proved the quadratic formula, and drew some nice drawings of where the golden ratio popped up with proofs in pencil in the white spaces under questions. then i rubbed them out thinking the marker would think i was being a 'gaylord'. damn. maybe this would have helped me. though i doubt it.

Just imagine how cool it must be to be in the top 5. A person in the year above was top 5 in spanish last year... I really hope I can get in on something random, like geography or maths - but it probably won't happen

I think I have a chance of a top 5 in Electronics (AQA), since only 600 people do it each year, and I got 100% on coursework, and I think I did really well in the exam... It would be soo cool to get it!
