Not quite. At Glasgow SGSAH and the notoriously oblique ‘college scholarship’ use the same form only for convenience in the internal stage(s). The actual application to SGSAH is completed using smapply (as you presumably know?). That is, you can apply for the College Scholarship but not SGSAH (or the inverse) The internal stage defines your ranking at Glasgow, and so the outcome of your SGSAH application will not affect your internal ranking. Of course, those ranked above you may have won SGSAH and so bump your internal ranking up, but equally those below you might win and so reduce the number of College Scholarships above. Finally, a contextual round for widening access will be applied this year.

I apologise for the mistake above - I had only meant to note than Carnegie internal selection was completed in February (i.e. candidates selected for the external round).

I really only ask because everyone I know who's had a college scholarship failed to get SGSAH, but there really is no point trying to second guess processes.

Well, that's not a particularly helpful statistic since everyone who applied for SGSAH also completed the College Scholarship form since they are combined... The answer to your initial question is no, being waitlisted does not increase your chances of internal funding.

Well done on making the reserve list! I know people who were offered funded places right up to commencing their PhDs. So, there is always a chance. I didn't apply for Chase. I applied to the Techne competition but was unsuccessful. The wait and uncertainty totally sux. Good luck! I am now waiting to hear if I get a university studentship.... Let me know if you get offered a place

Thank you! Apparently offer-holders have until the 20th to accept or decline, so I imagine I won’t hear anything if there is a place until after that (or that’s what I’m telling myself so I don’t check my email every 5 minutes!!). Sorry to hear about Techne, I really hope you get the university studentship!!

Congrats! It seems you applied to at least 3? Just curious, how much did your proposal vary between each application? Or did it vary according to different expertise in the respective departments? I found one DTP tough enough to apply to.

Well done. What is your ultimate offer? Have you received it yet?

I applied to 7 DTPs, 2 externals (Carnegie and another) and c. 10 internals. My application varied considerably dependent on the supervisor(s) I had at each university. It was a lot of work!

Yes - I got it early from another DTP (but have subsequently won others). I am just declining now, but still lots to hear back from.

Thank you! This is my first year applying and I didn’t fancy waiting another, so I adopted a wide net approach. Astonishingly, I won at all three of my first choices, so all the rest were superfluous (but helped improve my application!). Once 9 separate supervisory teams have reviewed your proposal and application over 3-4 months you can be fairly confident that any errors have been amended.

That said, I didn’t win at OOC (waitlisted), or SGSAH (waitlisted).

Wow, congratulations!! If you don’t mind me asking, did you apply to CHASE?

I did not.

I came off the waitlist for SGSAH and won that today, so it will be going further down. Just to note that waitlists are still coming through.

I came off the SGSAH reserve list! Utterly delighted and totally shocked. If you were above me, othered, thank you for your wide net approach that got you accepted elsewhere 😆
