I'm also on the Reserve List. I wonder what our chances are now?

I would say pretty low - do you think we can still hope to be considered by the Durham Doctoral Studentship, or is that just for people who got rejected from the NB?

Not sure how to feel about it either. Though honestly I think it’s pretty great that our proposals were of a standard to be seen as fundable. People DO turn down funding offers for many reasons, and my supervisor said several people in recent years have got offers off the reserve list. In terms of DDS you’d think reservists for NB funding would be considered more seriously than people who got an outright no, so I’ll guess we’ll have to sit tight for the next 2 weeks for people to accept/reject funding and see what happens  either way well done everyone!! I think it’s better news than it seems.

Just to confirm - I’ve heard we will be considered for internal funding

You're right Naomi, it is actually not bad news at all - having to wait another 2 weeks actually feels harrowing but I guess at least it means that we can keep hoping! Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone

Oh great! I don't suppose you've had any indication of the timeline? I'm guessing it will be over the next couple of weeks.

No idea of timeline. Though I’m assuming NB offers have a timeline to accept/decline, and then I guess Durham will know for sure who is and isn’t getting NB funding, and then they’ll consider the reserves who didn’t get it? No idea. Durham like to take their sweet time though. I’m hoping it won’t be more than a month?

It says on the NB regulation that offer holders must confirm acceptance within two weeks from the day the offer was made - I suppose a month for the DDS is probably realistic, but actually I've got no clue

Thanks. Do you mind me asking whether you have accepted your offer from Durham? I'd planned on waiting depending on the NB outcome, but now I'm not sure if this will impact funding/college allocations.

I did accept my offer, but I actually only applied to Durham due to nature of my project/supervisors. I can’t imagine it would affect Durham funding at all but it might affect college allocations as they emailed a few weeks ago asking for preferences. Although, I wouldn’t worry too much as your college isn’t hugely important at Durham, I just wanted Ustinov as it’s the postgrad one.

Ah that’s great. At least they don’t have months to decide (no offence to successful NB people ) so hopefully a month at the most then.

Hi Guys,

I hope this hasn't been answered already, but I'm a bit confused about post grad tuition loans. It says on SFE and the gov.uk website that the maximum amount available is £11222 for year 20/21. Does anyone know if this is the maximum per year, or the maximum in total regardless of how long your course is? I was under the impression it was per year but the example on SFE suggests it's a one time time maximum. Hoping someone can shed some light on this because this will be the difference between whether I can do my course or not as it's 2 years @ £9250 per year.

Thanks

It's the max in total. If you're doing a part-time course over two years, the amount is divided equally across both years, but it will still only come to £11222 in total. I was forced to turn down a place that I really wanted on a two-year MA course due to this - I had to find a full-time, one year option because it was all the loan would cover.

The course I wanted to do is 2 years full time, no option for part time. I was going to struggle as it was to fit in part time work to fund my living expenses but if I’ve got to find another 7k on top of that to fund the course as well, it literally means I can’t go back to university at all. It was a physician associate course and I was surprised there was no NHS bursaries for it considering the shortage of doctors and nurses. I’ll never find 7k :frown:

I'm so sorry - that really sucks. Maybe there is the option of a bursary from the uni, or fee waiver - have you tried searching the uni website? You sometimes find links to things that you can apply for under the 'fees and funding' section of the course page. There's also the Scholarship Hub website: https://www.thescholarshiphub.org.uk/ And because you want to work for the NHS, you might be able to raise some money by crowdfunding, if you share your story on social media and get friends/family to share it too? I really hope you can find some help somewhere, this seems like a ludicrous situation.

On the website it lists 30th April as results day so I’m hoping that they stick to it! Good luck - it’s been such a long wait I just want to know haha
