Hi, as an international applicant, I have applied to the University of Salford & Westminster in the same course i.e. MSc Airtransport Planning and Management, I have received my conditional offer from Salford, I want to know if I should go for it or wait for the Westminster to give me an offer.

P.S. I really want to go to the University of Westminster but at the same time, I don't want to defer my intake

This is great news, thanks for sharing! Now I just hope I get a studentship haha.

I'm awaiting SGSAH. Fairly patient because I know it's on their timescale, so not preoccupied by refreshing emails, but also obviously anxious and overthinking 🤦

I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on the following. Someone I know who was an unsuccessful SGSAH applicant last year, during her MSc, said she thought she was rejected because she didn't have the MSc completed at the time of applying for SGSAH, and apparently they prefer this. This seemed odd to me, because surely it's pretty common to do apply during your MSc year? This person now works in uni admin so I'm less doubtful about her claim than I might otherwise have been.

It's had me mildly preoccupied as I'm currently doing my MSc now, so obviously not finished it. Although, I do hold an unconditioned offer to the PhD, which I was surprised to receive. I was hoping if they prefer people who have completed their MSc (which obviously might not even be the case) then the fact I already have an unconditioned PhD acceptance might balance this out?

Having your MSc/MA (etc.) grade in hand is beneficial since it will demonstrate continued attainment. However, grades are only a fraction of the consideration for an award. You could hold a First and a Distinction and still not come close to winning funding if your proposal is not strong enough, or your preparedness, and so on. SGSAH have no idea what your offer is from your institution, so that will not impact the decision, which is based entirely on your application, references, and institutional statement of support.

Hey! Great to hear from a fellow SGSAH applicant. It's been a lonely and stressful couple of months haha.

Regarding the MSc issue, I don't think it's that strict, like 'if you haven't completed your MSc you're out'. But I think it definitely carries some weight in the application, especially for the qualifications section. So, if you have already completed an MSc by the time you apply to SGSAH, you'll probably have more to show in your application, which will likely allow you to score higher. That being said, qualifications is the criteria set that yields the least amount of points, so in the end I think it all comes down to your project, really.

Hello guys, I also applied for SGSAH studentship. What is your panel?

Reply 1966

I’ve been reading this forum for a while, especially in relation to SGSAH. Some people were sharing their application numbers to determine how many people are competing for the studentships that year. Mine is in the range of 600-650. If you want, we could talk on WhatsApp and Telegram, discuss our applications, or talk about it right here.

I'm also waiting on SGSAH - panel B

Mine is panel F - Linguistics. By the way, when was your application updated the last time? Mine was updated today, 10:11 am.

Mine was updated today at 11.12am

I'll be honest though, this is my second year going through the SGSAH process and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to application updates or number of applicant

Well, the only thing I'm worrying about is how stiff the competition is this year. At least application no. helps me to understand how many people are out there waiting for SGSAH's decision.

I went through past year posts on this thread, and I'm 99% sure that the numbers represent an all time count since they started using this system. In 21/22 people were sayin that their numbers were in the 100s. In 22/23, they were saying that their numebrs were in the 300-400s. My number this year is 700-something. So yeah, thankfully that doesn't mean there are 700 people applying this year. I'm still anxious though. haha
