Edexcel C3 - question from longman textbook Watch

On page 176 of the edexcel longman C3 & C4 textbook (the practice C3 paper) - Question 2;

It uses arcsin x - how does this affect the calculation? I thought you just did sin^-1 but it doesnt give one negative, one positive answer?!

Use your knowledge of the shape of the graphs.

Don't have the specified book.

More details are needed for an answer (like the question).

Okay, the question is;

f(x) = arcsin x + 1 - 9x^2

(a) show that there is a root of f(x)=0 in the interval [0.3, 0.4]

Do f(0.3) and f(0.4) and show that there is a sign change in the interval.

[ tip: You might want to change you calculator to RADIANS and try again ]
