It happens to me too! I blame it on some sort of intolerance to the acidity of the apple, but I don't really have much of a clue why it happens. Puts me right off apples though, like you say.
Don't eat apples then!

Do you wash the apples? It might be a reaction to residues on the skin of the apples if you don't.

Eat Pears instead.

its called 'oral allergy syndrome'

its quite common and most people who have it dont know about it. it mostly occurs with fresh fruit and veg, different people are succestiple to be allergic to different groups of foods, e.g. if you have the 'itchy throat' eatign an apple, its likely you will have the same reaction to pears.

it have experinced these symtoms eating apples, pears and cherries. its is said to be possible to eat these things without any symptoms if they have been processed, e.g. turned into fruit juice or cooked in a dessert.
I don't remember having any problems with pears, and certainly not cherries I was wolfing them down the other day :p:

Thanks for that, though... how bad can it get?
Same thing happens to me with bananas and kiwis. Not a clue why!!

that is basically and allergic reaction.. either from the pesticides on the apple if you havent washed it or from the apple's chemical properties..
Great so I'm allergic to one of my favourite fruits :frown:

man i get this reaction too! i thought i was the only one, my mum thinks im just making excuses cos i dont want to eat fruit.

i find the symptoms are stronger during exam periods, my mate thinks it may be related to stress and hormone imbalacement.

along with the itchy throat and ringing ears, i get puffed up lips and stuff. apples, pears, cherrys, strawberrys and certain types of nuts, especially almonds.
Why do mums always think we're trying to deceive them?

yeah my friend has that, she's not allowed to eat apples as she could die from not being able to breathe! however, it's apparently just the skin, she can eat a peeled apple and drink apple juice!

Once I had an apple and afterwards had trouble breathing.... but that was only once.

Do you think there's a risk then? :|
