Hi everyone, just wanted to clear something up. In an action spectrum, when the graph shows absorption of a wavelength which corresponds to a colour the opposite to this colour is transmitted i.e. seen, but my question is what are the opposites in colour eg opposite of blue etc Thank you

Opposite is basically the colours in the visible range which are not the colour you are talking about. So the opposite of blue would be red colours as it is the other end of the visible spectrum of light.

look at the colour to the opposite. So for example, for green, it will be red.
I doubt you are required to know this in much detail.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you do have to know it in this much detail. Simply remember ROYGBIV and wrap it around, if you know what i mean.

There are a lot of these. Your best bet is to google search for them. Are you interested in transition metals or lanthanides and actinides?
