I remember doing this - would have been great fun if I hadn't had freshers flu the whole time. I spent the entire few days either in lectures, or in bed. Wasn't a great experience - but I'm sure that won't happen to any of you!

I signed up to help out this time. When the CUSU access officer came to do the CRB check stuff he was pretty excited that I was doing it and I had done it previously (if you see what I mean.) He also said I was pretty much guaranteed to get a shadow, because they gets lots of people applying to do maths - but not many mathmos actually sign up to help out haha.

Anyway, if you are a Shadow, what sort of things would you want to do in the evening - or when you're not busy during the day. AFAIK you have some planned activities - but I'd be interested whether you'd like to see the city - check out college rooms - check out other colleges etc... I'd like to know, I wouldn't know what to organise.

I applied to be a shadow this year : Classics with Arch/Anth as a second choice. I've never been to Cambridge, so i'd love a chance to see the city and the university if I got a chance to go - not too fussed about seeing other colleges/rooms as that's the kind of thing I could do on an open day, whereas just tagging along to some kind of social event isn't.:

I'm going to be shadowed for MML hopefully, yaaaaay.

I've applied for Maths with MML as my backup (not related in anyway to what I want to do, but I'm doing French A-Level!), not sure if anyone else from my college has applied.. really want to find out whether I'm going or not!

I've signed up to be shadowed, so if there are any geographers out there, you may want to back out while you still can. :P

Do you guys get any say in the college?

Don't think so...
I hope not, I'd never be able to choose! Best to be a surprise :-)

I applied for maths and phys/chem natural sciences as a second choice. But we only found out about it this week and asked my teacher to fill in the teacher's form on Thursday. School was closed on Friday so my application might have gone nowhere. Is there any way I could find out? :frown:

Same happened with me and my school, and i emailed them and they said it's fine, the teacher can apply in the new year (Although i got the reply from them after the deadline, and i had already filled out the teachers form myself because i was worried that my application would be unsuccessful without all the parts filed in :s-smilie: )

I tried to sign up to be a helper for this, but they won't allow international students to do it :frown:

This is despite me being CRB checked twice in Cambridge last term.

Ahh thanks, that's really reassuring. I'll send an email to see what I could do. I would have filled in the teacher's form myself but I don't know the school's LEA number...

Do you think if I filled in the teacher's form now (the deadline was last Friday) I would be considered?

Edit: Got an automatic reply - the access officer is away and I won't get a reply til Jan 4th. :frown:

Um, Yeah you could. It's not a LEA number, its Local Education Authority, which i think is just the council, so for me it was Brighton and Hove, as thats our local council thingy. So if you just google "your town LEA" and then just see what options come up.
Yeah i think you would still be considered, why not? As they emailed me AFTER the deadline saying that the teacher could fill it out in jan. But that doesn't really make sense to me as I thought you get a reply about if you've been chosen or not, at the end of december?? If you don't want to make a mistake wait, but if you don't think they would mind you filling it out, go for it

Edit: S**t... i think it is a number :frown: heres a link for all the numbers http://www.axcis.co.uk/html/leas_a_to_e.html
Edit again: you can have a number for the LEA, but on the form it just says the name.... phew

Isn't that racist or something?? Or maybe they just didnt want to pick you :p: but if it's all international students that's really bad :s-smilie:

I think they were just too lazy to do CRB checks abroad, according to our access officer. Got a PM saying otherwise though, so I'll check again .
I've applied for Law, with English as the secondary choice.

I love Spanish, but I just don't think I'd be able to cope with the workload for languages at university. I've seen how it's taught at various other unis and it seems far harder learning that (as well as another new language), as opposed to, say, law.

I've applied for Chemical Engineering, with NatSci as my second choice, has anyone heard from them yet? Or is it still too early?

Hmmm, I wonder (out loud on the internet) whether current students will find out whether they have a tutee at the same time as the prospective ones?

(If anyone does hear please mention it - I'd like to know  )

Hello everyone... i have applied to go on the CUSU Shadowing scheme at the end of January and we were supposed to hear if we were accepted at the end of December, however I have not heard anything yet and the problem is I live in Northern Ireland so if I have been accepted I will need to book some flights over. Has anyone heard anything about it. Thankyou.

I applied and I haven't heard anything yet. The email I got back from them when I first applied said to wait till the very end of December and then give them a ring if you hadn't heard anything, so I guess you'll know within the next few days...

Good luck! (:
