Not necessarily.

You may be able to get some sort of confirmation from the OU that you've completed the courses if you submit your ECA early. There's no examination, so you don't have to wait for that to happen.

Can't say if they'll do this or not, it's just a thought. Something worth asking after your make your Herts call maybe? OU is +44 (0)845 300 60 90

- Edit, fixed the phone number

I'm almost certain at least one person on these forums has done this, it is definitely possible.

Anybody know for sure what the best way to do the open university is?. If I want to do it?. Would it be to work full time for the duration of the degree? Im sick of feeling like crap now. I just want to get on and do something. Wish I'd started in September but there you go. I would do anything.... Anybody know of two year degrees which start in January for me?

Don't just pick something random...look through the courses and find something that interests you. If you want to study full time (120 credits a year) you most likely won't want to be working full time as well unless you're very motivated and very good at time management. I'm studying 60 points at the moment, going up to 90 points in Feburary, and working full time until then when I'll hopefully go down to around 25-30 hours a week at work if I can.

Just read through this thread and you sound really depressed :frown: Sorry if this is an inappropriate question, but have you been to the doc to talk about how you're feeling? Sounds like you could do with some support at the moment.

Do you still want to do the course that you didn't start this autumn? If so I'd give the uni concerned a call and ask about starting next year. That gives you until next autumn to get your head together and you could certainly do an OU course in the meantime to stop your brain from getting too rusty. You might find you enjoy the OU experience and decide to continue with it, or you could go and do the full-time degree that you originally intended to do. That way you're giving yourself a bit of time to feel better and keeping your options open.

Don't be so hard on yourself: you must've had your reasons for not taking up the uni place this year and it sounds to me like the best way forward is to stop beating yourself up about this, focus on the future, look after yourself (including getting some help with the anxiety/depression stuff if necessary) and put some plans in place to get back on track again. Sorry to roll out the old cliché, but you really do still have your whole life ahead of you: it's WAY too early to think you've messed things up! Good luck x

I'm 22 and started my OU degree just after I turned 20. I didn't have the opportunity to go to a brick uni for a variety of reasons, but still wanted a degree.

I'm equally surprised and pleased that so many young people are doing OU degrees  I'm 21 and starting my first course in Febuary, working towards a BSc in Environmental Science. I can't wait to start - I'm not overly confident and knew brick Uni wasn't right for me when I left school. I've done a college course and worked for a bit but now think it's time to get my head down! Bit nervous about the prospect of residential schools, but it will be great I'm sure.

I weighed out my options and so glad I found the OU, there seem to be a lot of people in a similar situation out there. And everyone is friendly! I hope to meet some decent people through the course, even if it will be quite hard.

Good fun  Waiting for my first TMA mark back though :woo: I'm freaking out! I have no idea what mark I will get

Scary stuff! I've got so long to wait until Feb, and I want my NUS card already :P I still don't really understand too much about marking etc, suppose it's different for every course. I've sent off my financial application today, suppose I'm not technically a student yet but I like to think so!

IF YOU GUYS ARE DOING DEGREES WITH THE OU, WE NEED TO GET A FACEBOOK PAGE UP SO WE CAN CHAT !

A facebook page would be great  I was surprised at how many other young people are doing degrees with the OU. I'm 22 years old, and aiming to work towards a degree in science with the OU.

There's faces in that there book.
I am 21 and am considering starting a maths degree with the Open University in Jauary. Is it possible to do a couple of years study with the open university part time and then transfer onto the 2nd year of a brick university full time?

The 2+2 courses they do for chemistry or physics enables you to do that but I wondered if it was possible to do the same with any other course?

Just getting ideas... as I am a 19 year old with no future, no life and no prospects. Considering a Degree in English Literature @ Staffordshire ( 2 year fast track ) to get back in with a shout at being happy.

Feel terrible atm but hey what can I do. I have 2 gap years instead of one eh?. Awesome.

anyway, just wanna see if anybody is on the open university at 20. I have anxiety issues and maybe being locked up in my room for 3 years with a textbook will be best for me.

hey im 26 and starting my first course with the ou in feb, thinking about it i wish i started when i was 19/20 but nevermind im starting now! better late than never!

ps. i do still feel 20 though!!

good luck in what ever you decide
