What can one expect from a telephone interview?

I had a telephone interview once, it consisted of been asked, what store i wanted to work in, what hours i could work and when i could start, i then was asked about my personal details and experience.

I then was asked a series of questions and had to answer A, B, C, or, D according to what i thought was the correct answer and then at the end i was told if i had scored enough to get to the next round, which i did, i then got told i would be sent a letter about the next round.

When i recieved the letter it said i had to attend a 1 to 1 interview with a role play exercise at the store i was applying to, unfortunatly, i was ill on the day, i couldnt make it and they said i couldnt come at another day as that was the last day of interviews so i never ended up getting the job.
