    Hi i'm stuck on some reaction conditions again I can't find them in my book anywhere the first is from and alkene to an alkane (simple I know sorry) and the second a carboxcylic acid to an acyl chloride. Thanks for your help!

    alkene to alcane is heated Nickel catalyst (rainy nickel is u want to b accurate)...

    the second one is just PCl5 in dry conditions

    oh yea...the first 1 can either b nickel or platinum catalyst

    1. Alkene to alkane done by hydrogen in the presence of a nickel catalyst at about ~150oC

    2. Phosphorus pentachloride at room temp. Gives the acyl chloride + POCl3 + HCl

    If you are doing salters then to convert a carbox to an acyl chloride, you do it with SCl2O
