i hope a sex determination cross comes up (shades of gcse's lol)
What are you talking about? You obviously dont need to learn genetic crosses. Its all totally logical. Anybody could figure it out with no knowledge

I think it will be one of those ones where you are required to find the unknown genotype at the start of the cross whilst been given the resulting phenotypes

Yeah I agree, just find gametes, F1 selfpollinate/interbreed, gametes and cross

Well to be fair it does get slightly mroe complicated when you have to dihybrid cross, do linked genes, codominance, multiple alleles etc
Reply 185
not really, codominance is the same except you just take the uppercase letters, dihybrid is the same as before with 2 contrasting characters, and you only need to learn the Ia Ib Io stuff for multiple alleles?
yeh. even if you knew nothing, making logical guesses from the notation and words would see you through.
Reply 187
No dihybrid is where you have two genes to play with
And linked is where those two genes have to stay together because they are on the same chromosome
I'm not saying it's HARD - i can do it - i'm just saying it's not a piece of piss!!

Good luck everyone

two genes to play with IS 2 pairs of contrasting characters... = Dihybrid
Monohybrid involes a single character controlled by one gene with 2 or more alleles...

Ah sorry you said characters meaning characteristics
I thought you meant characters as in letters....

hehe i was just worrying i had learnt it wrong this whole time.
How did everyone do in Unit 6??

I chose the essay on carbohydrates digestion and regulation on glucose
My essay was strucutred like this
Mechanical digestion
Chemical digestion
-use of enzymes
-Roles of conditions and enzymes in stomach, duodenum, iluem, pancreas
Absorption of glucose once disaccharides have been broken down from pollysaccharides
Use of Glucose in Cells
Regulation of Glucose in Cells
-High Glucose in blood-Insulin
-Low Glucose in blood-Glucagon
-Egestion of waste carbohydrates

The hardest question for me was the one on role of surface membrance when protiens bind to it

and changing the investigation to test something from the water??

How about you lot?

Heh, there's a thread on this in the Bio subforum already  Paste what you've written into there.
