The Student Room Group

The huge study area or whatever that you see in their prospectus seems like a good idea and looks nice but I would see it as a bad point considering putting everyone in a huge glass room must generate a bit of noise :P

In your opinion what is the worst and best thing about Imperial?
I've applied to Imperial and was wondering what other people think about it.
Current and ex students opinions would be best as they are most likely to know tbh...

Worst: Ratio of male to female, however I guess that's kinda good for you being a girl. :p:

Best: Graduating knowing you've got one of the best degrees in the country?

Best: The sheer geekiness.

Worst: Rubbish guy:girl ratio but tbh you wouldn't expect any more from a uni that only does science and engineering (medics don't count cos they don't mix with others).
Union events are dire.

I think I walked past you going into labs yesterday, however I was too scared to mention "I know you from TSR".. So didn't :p:

(completely random snippit)
ive found the guy:girl ratio isnt that bad for chemistry..its about even for us...plus i have actually made friends with medics as well

the only bad thing here is the union events are crap apart from the mingle...but you can always hit clubs instead which can be good...also my halls are too far away...tube got delayed this morning and i missed my only lecture...so i just had to come home again lol

but otherwise im loving it here...and the whole no social life crap everyone goes on about is literally crap...ive been out so many times its awesome...

Best: Not having to hide any geekiness when around campus.
Worst: Bad turnout at Union Event/ massive workload in later years, if you decide to take up committee positions as well.

Oh, plus Scottish_Gurl....you've got neat handwriting....

i dont have neat handwriting so that failed :p:
Ahahaha stalker fail.

Yeah, Imperial's not too bad. It's the people you're with really - my corridor is full of boring people who never go out so my social life hasn't been great tbh.

The ratio isn't as terrible as everyone makes out, honest :yep: I honestly haven't been able to tell that much. It's far far far worse at some other unis though (like my boyfriend's - suppose it means I don't have to worry hahaha.)

Dunno all this stuff about workload people are on about. I haven't done a single problem sheet so far :p: oh god, I'm gonna fail hahaha.

I hate to say it, but I don't actually know who sir.jamesgreen is. I know he's in my year but I don't think I've spoken to him that often.

EDIT:

I agree with the people that said the male:female ratio isn't as bad as what people make it out to be. I certainly haven't found it to be the "sausage fest" people were talking about before I went there. What I noticed more is the international:home student ratio.

Probably because there's so many Chinese people around you can't really tell whether they're home students or International ones. So it seems as if there's more than there actually are. But Imperial does seem to have a particularly high number of International students.
it's pretty awesome.

the ratio is not that bad come on, there are girls... sir fleming building is the way!
anyway, it's a really international and mixed community. you'll find a group of people as mental as you are and it will be really fun. and the societies are cool . (lol they totally payed me to say this yeaaa) plus the reputation - that might play a big part on your decision as well.

the cons might be too much work - not really unless you party hardy every night and you are NOT doing biochemistry, and expensive life in london lol. specially the tube. jesus so expensive oO.

Worst things are probably the union events (I just avoid them though!), how expensive it can be here and how much they can make you work (and the hours).

But on the bright side the campus is lovely, accommodation is decent, the city is brilliant~~, the courses are well structured and the work definitely pays off.

I'd say the best thing for me about this place is how organised it is here compared to the last uni I was at (I started a BSc in Manchester first and dropped out before applying here). The work load is hard but totally manageable if you stay on top of it, the balance is very well tuned from what I can tell so far, whereas on my last course we were bearly set anything and had no clue what was going on half the time. You did have a lot more time to doss about though, and often here I find myself a bit too distracted to have the social life I had there.

And it's spelt medicks* btw
