Yep I got an offer from Oriel on the 24th. The letter was dated the 21st December.

Congrats for that, now i am still waiting for my post, i dunno if im ever gonna receive it :s-smilie:

do anyone when are the admission officers gonna get back from holiday? i think i could just call them to ask, like i did for my interview invitation
ahhh jejectjed on christmas eve! Not surprised as my interviews (particulary the first) didn't go to great. Due to my poor grade in further maths I was expecting to be the first to "get the chop" after the interviews. Fiddle sticks. Oh well I'll goto Imperial to study ISE.

Congrats! I've got a friend who's a first year there and she absolutely loves it.

Well I go my rejection by post today. Can't say I'm suprised but I suppose you're always a bit disapointed when you get rejected...
Hopefully Imperial hurries up and makes the (right!! ) decision now!

Thanks! I'm sorry to hear that tho. Good luck with Imperial! Have you heard anything yet? I will probably get rejected by them, UCL and Durham now

I'm pretty sure it's fine for you to email them about it now. Someone in another thread did that and subsequently got his decision over email.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but those of you who have offers for 2010 should join this group:

i would like to do engineering at oxford, but theres one module in further maths which is really getting me worked up about applying, and how to apply.
i got a D in D1, but acheived over 90 in all my other maths modules. i got high ums marks in my other subjects.
when applying, should i display all my ums marks on ucas? or only display my As marks, and thus not show my d, but also not be able to show my other good ucas marks.
thanks, please help!
Cambridge is better

You don't have to declare your UMS marks for Oxford. So if you're safely in A territory they won't know anything... whether you could cope with the maths side of engineering is another matter (but something I know nothing about!)

The problem is solved for you because you cannot show any UMS marks on your UCAS application. You can, however, optionally show module grades.

Assuming your school doesn't cash in AS levels, don't declare any of your grades on UCAS (i.e. put them as pending) but get your reference writer to include a statement in your reference along the lines of "achieved over 90% in *however many* maths/further maths modules", making no mention of your D in D1. That said they wouldn't give a damn about D1 anyway, but would be much more interested in your scores in the proper modules.

thanks for your help.
should i just ask my school if they cash in the As levels? im not sure if it can actually work this way, as if i put pending on my As results, even though ive taken them (and they know that), how can they judge me? through the grades in the reference? couldnt i just put my grades in on the ucas, put the ums on my reference, and put pending on further maths (which includs the d1 mark, and i havent got a whole As in it anyway)?
again, thanks for your help

thank you for your help. are you sure about this? because friends who applied to uni last year told me there is an option to put in the ums marks.

I am sure. Perhaps they made the mistake of filling in their applications wrongly, which wouldn't have left admissions tutors being very impressed with their ability to follow instructions.

.

Yes - if your school doesn't cash in your AS levels then you have no choice but to put pending for your A-level grades (or if you plan to only cash in the AS, the AS grades) on your UCAS application, because you physically DON'T have a grade in those A-levels/AS yet and won't do until they are cashed in. I think your school usually write a sentence or two about their policy on cashing in in your reference, so for example my school wrote in that it is their policy not to cash anything in until the end of year 13, hence the "pending" grades on my UCAS application.
Hi

I'm aware there are several other threads like this in other places, but regardless, what would TSR recommend as a suitable laptop for the Engineering Science degree? (I'm about to start in October at St Catz)

I'd especially appreciate reports from those of you on the course at the minute about what you've used, or what programmes you've used on the course so I can work out what I need.

Also, do they give you copies of the specific programmes to use on your laptop, or do you have to buy them, or are there computers available which have the relevant stuff?

Thanks!

tl;dr, What laptop for Engineering Science at Oxford?
