Well it is for other engineerings, but for Electrical engineering they have a separate course code H620, and in my acknowledgement from the university and the college (Balliol), they mention Electrical engineering and not engineering sciences.

Perhaps you don't realise that you are all on the same engineering science course, and that you will start to choose options in the third year that will take you down the path of obtaining a degree that is accredited to a specific engineering discipline. A few people (like you) declare this choice when applying but the rest apply for the generic course and make the choice when they have more information to allow a sensible decision to be made.

I assure you that I am fully aware of the course structure and know that for the first year or two all the students study the same module but few people (like me) know exactly what we want to do and thus are able to make a sensible decision now.

:ditto:

I knew I wanted to end up specialising in electronic engineering before I started as well. Didn't have the choice of applying directly for it at the time though.

I didn't mean to imply your choice (or its timing) wasn't a sensible one, but your previous posts and your attempt to start an electrical-specific thread seemed to imply you weren't aware.

Your not making ANY decision though, once your in what you applied to will just be binned. The only reason Oxford (according to their engineering admissions tutor) have course codes other than for eng science is so people can find it. Infact he said they get rather annoyed when people apply to a course that doesnt actually exist.

Well I guess that the fact that I chose Electrical Engineering Code instead of Engineering Science will not disadvantage my app.

Also applying to
Imperial
Durham
Warwick
Bristol

Predicted A*A*A*A*A*A*
(Maths, FM, Physics, Chemistry, French, Gen Studs)

..... does everyone not realise Oxford engineering is a GENERAL engineering course?

All the universities I am applying too, apart from Bristol, allow you to change your decision after 2 years, which implies the first two years of most other uni Eng courses are general. You must specialise at Oxford after two years.

I know they are general... but the course you will enter into for Oxford, regardless of the speciality you have in your head is ENGINEERING SCIENCE
j_chiye
Engineering Type: I put Chemical Engineering on UCAS, but I doubt I'll specialize in that. It's why I'm applying to Oxford; they have a general course!!! =D

Name of College: St Catz

Other universities applied to:

-Manchester - offer (AAB)
-Imperial - acknowledged
-UCL - acknowledged
-Nottingham - offer (ABB)

So, are you guys doing anytrhing for interview preparation? Everyone at my school is stressing about the TSA and other tests for their subjects tomorrow. Kinda makes me feel as if I should actually be doing something as well...

You've got a Manchester offer already? Aren't the engineering interview/open day things spread between the 4th Nov (tomorrow at the time of writing) and the 26th Nov?

I'm an international student, so they wouldn't interview me anyways. I'm going over to Oxford for interview though.

Its just double maths chem phy (pretty standard for oxbridge engineers), then french, im assuming either as a first language or just ******* good at it, then general studies which is...... lol.

So its nothing special (not that im playing it down)

And agreed on Gen Studs...
naught from university of oxford *prays*
interview at imperial next week omg!
Did any of you guys get the mail from your college asking, if you're shortlisted, do you intend to come to Oxford for an interview?

I got it.
It was freaky.
I mean not the actual mail, but, the whole seeing a mail from oxford with the high priority '!' sign on it.

This mail could have been just for overseas and EU applicants though...

Thanks! Dw it's probably cause you're international and the can't interview you so it'll just take a bit longer for them to give you an offer.
So yeah :woo:
Still can't believe it
Kind of nervous about Oxford now though... a few people at my school have Cambridge interviews :s-smilie:
