I have an offer to study Economics & Management in Oxford, starting this October, but I think I'm getting cold feet. This makes me feel stupid, undeserving and worse, yet I'm not sure it's the course for me any more.
Do you think it would be possible to switch to read Engineering instead?
Being an international, I have all the formal requirements in order, having read physics and maths to roughly A-level equivalent.
so, if you could give me your thoughts on a few questions:

-how tough is the Engie course really? Do a lot of people fail? I have no problem working my a** off, but what if I'm simply not clever enough?
- have you heard of anyone else transferring to Engineering, either just after start of term or after year 1 of another course?
-It means I would have just two-three weeks to solve the Engie prep problems, some of which I find really challenging. Problematic?
- I'm starting Uni in a foreign country, knowing no one. Is this just a panic reaction? Is changing course a bad idea?

...I would be REALLY/EXTREMELY grateful =D =D =)

Hey,

I haven't heard of anyone switching courses before starting university and doubt that it would be possible to arrange in the time you have available. You would most likely need to interview with Engineering tutors before making the switch. However, it is relatively common for people to change courses after their first year, especially if they do well in prelims.

How hard the engineering course is really depends on the individual, but people who work hard do well. Can I ask why you're getting cold feet? Perhaps it's worth starting with E&M and seeing how it goes - it's not uncommon for people to be a bit apprehensive before they start. I know a reasonable amount about both courses so if you have any specific questions about them then I'd be happy to answer.
Hi Guys! Has anyone received any invitations for interviews yet?

No, I asked a few days ago on the PAT thread and nobody has recieved an invitation for an interview for engineering. (Yet). However, I suspect this week they'll send out the whole bunch of letters/emails.

I also got an interview invitation today at St John's
I have heard nothing from Brasenose. Does this mean I'm a borderline applicant?
I checked my email to find an unread in my inbox(applying for engineering at Mansfield)
Boy was I ****ing scared.. I bet I could have died from a heart attack

Slowly I clicked on '1 new mail', hands trembling like crazy

To find out it was a Christmas reminder.. ****

Magdalen have been reasonably fast compared to most for engineering; there are four of us at my school doing Oxford Eng and my friend applying to Mag was the first to hear (at about lunchtime today). Two of us have applied for Keble and heard nothing yet, the other I've got a feeling applied to Corpus and also no response from there for him.

When are most people's interview dates for those that have invitations? I just want to get this over with now!

Keble sent the engineering letters TODAY!!!
You'll be hearing on Friday I suppose

I'm also applying for Keble engineering.
I'm pretty sure I haven't got an Offer, because I'm an EU applicant, so I think I should have also recieved an email if I were shortlisted for interview. If you are from the UK you should recieve the letter tomorrow or friday
