Shortening the 7 day break (pill)

Probably a silly question with an absurdly obvious answer, but I've read the info back to back a couple of times and can't find the answer from it.

Basically, is there a problem with starting the next month of the pill early? I don't mean running two packs together, I mean taking the first pill of the next month on, say, day 5 of the 7 day break? Would this reduce the effectiveness of the pill in any way?

Nah no problem, I do it all the time... Example: I have my last pill on saturday, dont start my period til monday, and then take my first pill on thursday or friday. It's fine.

Grand, thanks! It feels a bit stupid having to ask (I've been on the pill for five years now), but I've never had the occasion to consider doing it before.

Don't risk it, unless you fancy sleepless nights and smelly nappies in the nearish future.

Edited to add: I used to do it all the time too, thinking nowt would be affected. Oh I was sooooo wrong....

But surely as the pill prevents ovulation, taking it early during the break would have no effect other than normal?

Yeah, you'd think. I did....

My son begs to differ

Anyone else?

Why would you want to do that, out of curiosity?

Visiting my bf, only have a week with him and I don't want to be on my period for half of that. He lives several thousand miles from me so I don't exactly get to see him often! Hoping that, if it's still on by the end of this week, I might be able to stop it by starting the next course early (may as well try!). I would have just run two packs together, but I changed my pill last month and so I didn't have a week off then and I don't want to do that twice in a row.

Although actually it may not be an issue, as my period appears to have gone walkies after years of being absolutely predictable.

You can shorten the 7 day break and it's still effective.

You just can't lengthen it.

Ahh I see  I was wondering why you didn't just run the packs together! Have fun seeing your boyfriend

people taking the pill irresponsibly = total ******* fail

you have a 7 day break for a reason! why the hell would you want to shorten it? if you could do this kind of thing then it would say so in the instructions

Well that's the thing, it tells you all the things you shouldn't do in the instructions (like lengthening the break), but makes absolutely no mention whatsoever of shortening it, and frankly I couldn't see how it could do any harm to.

i accidently took the pill earlier than i was supposed to (instead of a 7 day break i had a 5 day break) ... for some reason i had it in my head that 7 days at passed. anyway is there a higher risk of getting pregnant? i have read the leaflet over and over and nothing is mentioned about it!

Actually, in my instructions, it says that if I want I can skip the 7 day break entirely

OP, as others have said, it's fine

the only problem is that its the second month in a row ive been taking it. but i started the first strip two weeks after my period. i didnt use it as a contraception it was just because during intercourse our condom split..and being in a foreign country it is not very easy to get hold of the morning afterpill. the only thing i could do was to take the pill (obviously using condoms during intercourse. i finished my course and my period came while still taking the pill. i had a 5 day break and am now using it as contraception is that safe???

I have no idea what you're asking.

you weren't on the pill, but the condom broke so you started it? is that what you mean? that will have given you no protection and so you could be pregnant. you could just be bleeding from the hormones so that does not in any way prove you're not pregnant.
