Stretching Boots

Hey all,

Right I got a pair of Timberland boots yesterday - fitted alright, just v v snug. I tried the next size up and they were too big. I put them on today and they now feel a tad too snug! I got them from Swindon outlet villege so going back to refund/swap for half size up (which they didn't have anyway) is not an option.

So I am looking into being able to stretch them! Now these boots (if people have a pair of Timberlands) will know they are solid! :s-smilie:

Just wondering if anyone else has stretched footwear, preferably boots before - if so what did you use? did you go to a shoe maker to have them professionally stretched?? I badly want to get them sorted as I want to wear them as they are so cosy and warm (currently my footwear consists of ballet pumps, not ideal in this winter weather! :ninjagirl:).

Advise will be much appreciated. I will also reward to the most helpful advice/tips.

DB

What about an old-fashioned wooden shoe stretcher? Traditional yet effective.

I heard that leaving a damp towel inside the boot overnight or something helps...

Obviously stuffed into the boot, not just lying there like a piece of lettuce

I was thinking that, but then I thought Timberland boots are solid, tough hard wearing shoe/boot - would they work??? . . :s

If they're leather, something that my mum does is put some rubbing alcohol on them, then walk around in them for a while. Don't know if that's something that would work with cloth boots.

Make sure you do this before you want to use them around people, because you will smell like an alcoholic for while.

Yes they are leather. I will raid my dad's side of the wardrobe for the rubbing alcohol it and see if that works. Will it not mark them though???

As sad as this is I have hunted the internet, shops for over a year for these boots and I finally found them yesterday - so determined to get them cosy and comfy before I start going walkies in them .

for doc martens i recommend sitting with the boots on with your feet in a hot bath for an hour or so then walking about in them but i dunno if this would work with these ones and also thats not stretching so much as 'breaking them in'

I'd test the alcohol on an unobvious bit of the leather beforehand to see if it marks it; caveat lector - don't blame me if it all goes wrong. :p:

Yea a lady who was sat next to me yesterday in the shop trying on a pair of boots said ''meh jus stand in abit of water, let the rain beat on them - that should do the trick''. However I have just read that standing in the water with them and etc could damage them; reduce their ''shelf life'' :s-smilie:. But I can see how it can work though. I will try that method if nothing else works.

I've taken a pair of boots to the cobblers before to be stretched  I really wanted the back part around the heel stretching, but they said they only stretch the front of the boots. Don't know why.. It still worked though

It was quite cheap! Only about £5.. may have been less because it was a while ago now and I can't remember. Wasn't any more than that though, suppose you could always ask first

Ah thanks for this suggestion - I will check it out sometime in the week.

One of my friends swears by putting a potato inside shoes for a few days to stretch them out. She buys shoes in a smaller size when they're in the Schuh sale because they very often don't do her size but they fit after she's put a potato in them for a few days.

Clarks do a shoe stretcher spray that works quite well, might be worth a try.

I have a wooden shoe stretcher. Can't remember where it came from but its foot shaped and goes on the shoe and has springs in it to push it apart. Works okay. I'm forever having this problem with shoes and I have odd feet!
