I have the tuition fee and maintenance loans that I will pay back when I'm working. My parents currently pay for my accommodation, which I'm very grateful for.

my course is pretty intensive so getting a job during term time this year is out of the question. Saas pays my fees and i've used the money i saved from working for a large chunk of my rent, but i get amonthly allowance from my parents, for food, etc...the extra money from saas (i get the minimum payment) i use to help towards books/materials.
i am so grateful and i know how lucky i am. (:

Loans, grants, bursary and scholarship were more than enough for me to live on without needing another penny from anybody.

I don't understand why anyone would need help from their parents any way - SLC literally throw money at you irrespective of financial situation (bursaries, grants, supplementary grants, scholarships etc.)

Reply 10

No they don't. But this year I only have £35/week to live off, so my Dad gives me £20 towards petrol when I go home so I can afford to  xx

well,i dunno about you but in Scotland your Student loan amount is based on you're parents income, after tuition fees i wouldn't have enough to cover even a third of my rent for the year and you don't get a bursary for my course. so my two choices would be to work or get support from my parents, my parents have always insisted i do the latter and with my course the first option is out of the question.

My parents pay my tuition fees, and a large chunk of my rent, as I'm in central london and sometimes my loan is just not quite enough for it to be comfortable. Basically, I have really nice parents.

I have to work during term time and keep on top of my medical degree , of which i am in my 3rd year. My student loan only covers 3/5 of my accomodation cost, thus i need to make the difference during term
Plus i have alot of travelling expenses, and a car to maintain else i wouldn't be able to do my degree.
Its hard, almost every single person i know gets their student loan as a "hey, have a grand every 4 months" and complains that its not enough. Also most people get weekly payouts from parents, or monthly equivalents.

My parents are paying my rent, which is a serious help, as bills, traveling, books, food, and the rest takes up well over my loan and grant. I work as well though which helps to offset the cost of it all.

Reply 15

Of course they do. Can't get Student loan as family income is too high. I have course fee loan but that is all.

Reply 16

No, but my grandparents give me a few pound coins here and there

If my parents thought this way, they would have to pay for me to go to uni for all the money I saved by using state education :p:

I give my mum money :P
£37.50 a week rent, and she lends money of me constantly, and im giving her a grand of my grant to pay towards other bills xD Backwards world ftw

students who scrounge off their parents are leeches to society and do not deserve to be at uni if they can not manage their finances properly, I hate these kind of low lifes, these people are selfish and should get a job. If you parents have a very high income you should still not scrounge off them because it is wrong

Just for the record I am not trying to bait other users I am merely stating what a lot of other people think about students who scrounge off their parents, it is ridiculous that I was warned for this post.
