thats stupid. the image isnt marking it hard to read. if its illegal to have that, then surely its illegal for car dealers to have their name on the number plates?

The officer was merely upholding the law because this guy broke it.

A DVLA spokesman said the EU flag was, strictly speaking, the only symbol allowed on a car number plate, but that they were taking a relaxed view on enforcement unless the image distorted or affected the readability of the registration.
    What's everyone complaining about?

im sure they should be doing more important stuff. i.e catching killers/theives etc than giving people fines for stupid stuff

No offence (actually probably some offence) but you really are just totally missing the point by making this out to be something racial. "A DVLA spokesman said the EU flag was, strictly speaking, the only symbol allowed on a car number plate." It's a national law. Simple as. If some bored policeman decides to enforce it let them.

"Its not a problem in using another flag eg pakistan though is it?" - load of rubbish!

So police officers should let lawbreakers get away with what they are doing because its "stupid" in some peoples opinion? Speeding - forget about that, let people break the speed limit all they want because we should be catching killers and thieves, Road tax? Waste of time, its so trivial. "Its only a broken taillight and they're stopping me!" We have these people to uphold the law and when they do, people complain!

Why didn't accept he was wrong (which he was) or if he had a problem, explain it to the DVLA instead of crying to the papers.

Besides most forces have a specialised unit for dealing with traffic offences so its likely they won't be looking for gypsies, thieves, robbers etc anyway...

It's not just "some peoples opinion", The DVLA taking a relaxed view means that they don't expect it to be enforced. And anyway, what's wrong with people complaining about a law that they see as stupid?

Meaning it IS illegal but they feel that the motorists needn't be penalised for having another flag there. I'm sure this particular police officer did not know about the DVLA's relaxed view or he wouldn't have pulled him over in the first place - he just knew that having a flag there wasn't right.

Nothing against calling a law stupid but when its a law - stupid or not - they still have to abide by it first and then complain later that its unreasonable or whatever...
