How far is too far to walk to school / college...

Poll

How long is too long to walk to school / college if you're a teenager?

I'm 16 (going on 17) and was wondering what everyone's views were on this. I used to walk 45 minutes everyday to school and 45 minutes back and felt it was perhaps a bit too long, yet I take the bus now to college and it's 1 hour 10 to walk. How far do you think is the furthest distance that is ok to walk before it becomes too far?

I used to walk to and from 6th form and would take me 30 minutes (walking quite fast). If the journey exceeds 40 minutes on foot then I'll usually get the bus. Or if I'm back home (as in not at uni) then I might get a lift from a parent.

An hour to walk? You shouldn't be walking then. Though undoubtedly we will get some enthusiast who claims to walk 200 miles to his school >.>

It takes me about 20-25 minutes to walk to school, but I walk fast, so probably 35-40 minutes at an ordinary pace. My mom lives in a rather remote village, so when I stay with her I just get a fifteen minute bus  .

My school (according to google) was 49 minutes away by walking, and I'd never do it, and indeed never have. It's porbably because its basically through fields, and there's only one way to actually walk it and that ways 1hr and 3 mins according to google.
Defo never walk it.

I'd say 30 mins is my cap!

At my old place it took me either 60min walking or about 20-30mins on my cycle to walk. Good exercise, but a pain having to get up earlier.

I used to walk 15 mins and I was pretty much the furthest away bar two or three who live in a neighboring village about 20 mins walk away.

Mine takes about an hour and 15 minutes :h:

And yes, I do walk it. Have to get up at half 7 in the morning and get home at 6ish, students are meant to be lazy :hmmm:

I walked 45 minutes to and from every day.

I've only ever had a 2 minute walk tbh :p: But walking to friends' houses after school and such, some lived about 20 minutes away and it didn't seem too long. More than 30 minutes might start to get excessive

It used to take me an hour to walk to college. So way over two hours of walking every weekday must have done me good. An hour and a half would be my cap, and that's pushing it a bit. Two hours is over the top. That's more than the length of most movies.

I think a jog or a run every morning is good for you, so if you're not to jog or run then spend at least one hour walking...

If uni was further than a mile, I wouldn't walk it. If it was further than 10 miles I would pub transport it. Between the two I'd drive it.

An hour.

Unfortunately, throughout college I had a 50-minute walk. That was fun.

I used to walk to school, 20-25 minutes twice a day, and did the same time last year at uni.

Now I live about 35 minutes away from uni, and to be honest, I think it does get a bit too much after a whole week. But maybe that's because I don't enjoy half of the journey, being on horribly, loud roads. If the walk was scenic, then I think I would be okay going up to 45 minutes.

Who the hell would walk to school 2hrs each way everyday

I think past half an hour-ish starts to be 'quite a long walk' and I would hope I could sometimes ( like if it was raining) find a bus to use instead.

Depends, do you like walking?

If I were you I'd just get a bicycle. You can do that in ~20 minutes on a bicycle.

I ride to college. It's fun in the mourning 5 min downhill very steep and long.
20 min uphill after 6+ hours lessons (purgatory every day) :p:

My college was 3.5 miles away, and I use to walk there and back. 2 hrs in total a day.

I like walking though.
