    I dont understand what is meant by a wave being transparent or opaque.... can anyone help me out??

    Its something to do with them being able to travel unimpended isnt it or somin like thaT??
    but what exactly does it mean... how do u know what types of radiation are transparent and what types arent?

    the only thing that springs to mind is that that is the description of the medium, but that's not very likely..

    well really close to the big bang when there was just nucie in a see of electrons all the photons kept colliding with the electrons so light couldnt travel large distance so the universe was therefore 'opaque'... u couldnt see because light couldnt travel far enough....

    and i guess i understand that

    BUT

    when it says gamma rayes are opaque waves and visible light is transparent and radio waves are partialy transparent i get confused what the are on about.........

    im thinkin maybe its just a way of talkin about what waves can get throiugh the atmosphere and what cant... so we can see microwaves from earth because they can just about get through out atmosphere but other types of waves cant do we cant detect them unless we have telescopes outside out atmosphere


    can anyone tell me whether im right or wrong in that guess?? cos it kinda fits in with the way they talk about it in my book but it just seems strange because the two examples i just gave of using transparent seem kinda different..
