    It was a carboxylic acid, im pretty sure it was... I need a B for this paper to get my offer. It wasn't too bad, but there were some uncertainties involved!

    this carb acid/ester arguments been going on for a while but I'll prolong it a bit more just for fun (!). I put ester and said that the trough around 2900 was not significant enough (was pretty short) to be considered. I think this is one of those questions that the examiners will give marks to which ever answer you put as long as you have backed up your points clearly.

    You may be right actually... And they may only award a max of 2 of 8 marks for picking what they consider to be the right one
