    Hiya I'm doing the OCR GCSE Year 10 exam for Double Award Science on Tuesday and I'm just going over some points that I need more help with before the exam. I'm a bit stuck with the extraction of aluminium by electrolysis and I'm pretty sure this will be on the exam. If anyone has a good website or think they could just go over the most important points I'd be really grateful. Thanx,
    Helen xx

    Thanks very much!
    So because oxygen is lost... would this be an example of reduction too?

    definition of reduction is gain of electrons:
    Al3+ + 3e --> Al

    therefore reduction of the aluminium.

    All metal etxraction from ores is reduction
