RAF Medic

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone on here is a medic, interested in going in as medic, knows what its like to be a medic or just knows anything about the training, career opportunities etc relating to medics in the RAF.

I'm going to the AFCO Monday but woundn't mind getting any information I can from people on here if anyone knows anything. There doesnt seem to be much info on the net about them, and i searched this site and there doesnt seem to be any posts relating to RAF medics.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Adam

Am I the only one interested in being a medic?

I understand the trade is currently closed until next year but my chances of getting through greatly increase if I'm the only applying for it haha.

I'm in a similar position, except I am looking at an army medic...apply for the scholarship...only 50 each year..gets you loaded but you must give back 3 years of service...untill you get into a med school, the medical corps will not really answer you or put onto any of their schemes (specialised), although the RAF may have "familiarisation weeks"

Woah, I was under impression they trained you up once in as it doesnt say theyre after any special qualifications on the website. Only 2 GCSEs for an RAF medic, no qaulifications for an army medic.

I still havent had a chance to get to the AFCO as i work 7 days a week, but i need to get up there to see about this.

So are the army putting you through med school?

And what do you mean by "gets you loaded"? Gets you rich I'm assuming.

Are you going for just a basic medic or something higher up like medic officer, nurse etc?

Thanks for the reply though. After searching this site it didnt seem like anyone else was interested in being a medic.

If by medic you mean doctor in the army then you obviously need a medical degree...however if it is soldier trade, then they train you..

If I get the scholarship, then they will pay me at uni (obviously I will need to get into med school, it was also garuntee me a place at Sandhurst) By loaded, I mean it pays pretty well, 3K to do A levels and the med scholarship pays pretty much everything (total around 50K apparantly)..I am looking to be a "doctor in the army" medic

I was planning on gong in as the RAFs alternative to soldier trade which would be an airman so I wont need to get into medical school.

I plan on going in as a basic medic and after gaining experience applying for paramedic training and then after more experience apply for the medical emergency response team, but this is all what I need to check with the AFCO.

Thanks for the reply, buddy. best of luck getting into med school. I see what you mean about getting loaded by going in as a doctor.

Hi adamdt, just wondered if you ended up applying for RAF Medic?

All medic training is now tri service. Consider the army route as well, the RAMC is substantially bigger than the RAF medical service, so there may be more scope for you to do different types of roles throughout your career i.e. close support, casevac etc. Good luck in any case.

i think the OP is referring to the MA/CMT trades not the Medical scholarships / bursaries for Medical student who want to be MOs

Sorry for the late reply. Im not used to this forum so didnt realise anyone else had posted in this thread.

No i couldnt apply for medic as it is still closed and from reading these forums it seems just about all trades are closed. Bit of a bad time to be joining it seems but once this mad rush of people applying becuase theyre redundant is over with hopefully those of us who have been wanting to join for a long time will be able to get in.

Just requires some patience now. Give us extra time to study though, which will make us shine more on the interview.

Hi

You've made two posts in a ten year old thread when there are posts about being a medic on the front page of the Armed Forces forum that can help you. Have a good read through what's available for you.

Kind regards
Adam
