CCF or D of E??

I think I should take up one next year, but I'm not sure which one to pick (if not both). Which would be the best for university entry and which is more fun? Also, do you have to do all the d of e awards for it to count or could you just leave it at bronze?

Thanks :tsr:

EDIT: I'm not doing just to do universities btw, I think it will be a good experience and fun as well

you can leave it, i only did bronze. do D of E, it's sooo much fun. dunno about where u live but if u do CCF around here yr counted as a loser :s-smilie: xxx

I did d of e up to bronze. It was fun, but I wouldn't recommend doing more than that. From the look of it at my school CCF looks a lot of fun, but loads of idiots do it. I would pick d of e as at least you can put the Bronze Award on your UCAS form, or even Gold if you continue.

Can't you do both? I did and they don't take that much time.

Loads and loads of people have DofE, most public schools do it, most other schools do it. It used to be important, and for some people it is a very valuable award, but for many people it is just another tick in the box. I am speaking with a bronze award and doing gold. I ofund it really boring up to Gold, but Gold was great fun. That all sounds a bit confusing but it makes sense in my head!

yeah i can, but i thought it might be a bit much with coursework and i also play netball twice a week.

Having said that, ccf is only two hours every monday plus a weekend camp and a week long camp

how many hours do you have to do for your service? I don't actually know what d of e involves other than an expedition and community service. What else do you have to do? Do you have to go once a week after school for d of e??

no one meetin to tell you what its about, another to plan your expedition and that's it! service (i did old peoples home one a week for 2 hours was really good!) skill (drama) and physical recreation (dance) you can already count netball as yr physical, u dont have 2 start now if u get me? xx

it sounds cool. do you have to be good at your skill  or can you just kinda take part in it lol. Could you do cooking as your skill? How do they test skills and sports??

Thanks for answering all my questions btw, there's some rep coming your way tomorrow

Hmm. I wonder if the ex-CCF guys I work with who are now fighter pilots are still counted as losers...?

You can be very short-sighted when you're in your early teens. I remember someone giggling first time I joined cadets; no-one seems to laugh too much now I earn a load flying fast jets....

i think you'll find i said "dunno about where you live" as in at my school i didnt imply anything about in general. she asked so i told her the truth. "no-one seems to laugh too much now I earn a load flying fast jets...." too much, so they laughed before hand then? probz dont laugh cause you're too busy braggin about your own life. don't start twisting what i say or i'll do the same to you. hope i helped isabella x

DofE is a bit easy, anyone can just sit there and do it.

CCF is probably the same, but it allows you, if you want, to progress the ranks and prove yourself. sayign this, CCF at my school is pretty crap and instead you tend to just gain rank with age. I was in the ATC beforehand, and that was good.

Join the CCF primarily because if you hold a rank be it CSM or LC it can give the impression that you are influential or a good leader. Furthermore it shows continuous comitmment to achieving a rank within the CCF.

Although DofE requires commitment its more individual. You can get many of the same (and in my opinion more) skills (especially communication skills) through joining the CCF.

What are you talking about?

D of E is the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
There are 3 levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold
For Bronze you have to do 3 months of 2 out of Service, Skills and Physical Rec and 6 months of the last, as well as a 15 mile hike, canoe, 25 mile cycle etc expedition that lasts over night
As you progress to Silver and Gold the expeditions get longer and you have to do more of each thing

Haven't a clue about CCF!!
