1. an electron of charge 1.6 x 10^-19C and mass 9.1 x 10^-31kg is accelerated by a potential difference of 3400V. it is then subjected to a magnetic field of flux density 0.056T.
calculate:
the speed of the electron
the force it experiences when it enters the magnetic field

Energy of the electron = 3400 x 1.6 x 10^-19 = 5.44 x 10^-16 J
1/2 mv2 = 5.44 x 10^-16 J
v = 34.6 x 10^6 ms-1

F = Bev
= 0.056 x 1.6 x 10^-19 x 34.6 x 10^6
= 3.10 x 10^-13 N
