Is it healthy or unhealthy to eat while standing up? I find myself doing it a lot. Is it better for losing weight?

(Come on girls! I know you know the answer!)

I've heard that it's BAD because you tend to eat a lot faster, tend to eat more and feel stressed! Also this causes trapped air  and indigestion.
i always eat standing up in school cos i already have to sit through the day in classes...and i NEED to stand up for that short lunchbreak.

i don't finf myself eating faster when i'm standing up. in fact...i think i eat faster SITTING DOWN cos i'm so desperate to get up and do something else other than keeping my butt on the seat.

i doubt there'd be any problems with standing up to eat. as for weight gain / loss, and how much faster you eat either standing / sitting, i guess it's more of a personal preference. and i highly doubt that little bit of standing up get help you lose too much weight.

I used to eat standing up a lot when I was at school, I don't think it make much difference, not any noticable difference that is. I mean, maybe there are some things that are a bit different, but you don't notice them and i wouldn't expect anyone really would, your body is meant to be able to eat whether your standing up or sitting, lol.
Pfff... never really thought about it! Maybe I ought to try eating when sitting down sometime at school? I notice that when I eat my sandwiches standing up I eat them too fast and get hiccups.

Magazines always tell you to sit down to eat, as apparently you eat more standing up as you're not concentrating on what you're eating as much

I cannot believe you are actually dicussing this. If when I go to uni I encounter such stupid people who are talking such *****, then i won't be able to cope.

Lets think about it for one second shall we children, tell me two things. 1. Where is your digestive system in relation to your body, as you all don't seem to know. Then once you've figured out the answer to question one you should be able to work it out. Since the digestive system is no lower than you hips, your upper body is in the same position sat down as it would be when your standing, the only thing I can think of is that you think your digestive system is in your legs. Your digestive system pushes the food along so it probabaly wouldn't matter if you were eating up side down.

The only thing I have read so far on the benefit of sitting down over standing is that if you continously eat sat down you get into the habit of feeling that that is the place where you should only eat and therefore are less likely to snack, but I only looked at a few sources.

I will now make a heart felt plea, please think before posting just threads or at least do some research.

Um not true. sitting down compresses the stomach and you innards (which is why when you're sick/drunk/indigestion etc it feels good to squeeze your buddy up tight. Altohug I agree in thinking that this is a fairly silly thread as even if their was any difference between eating standing up or down its going to be such a miniscule difference that it doenst matter at all. IN fact i can ionly see good in eating stnading up as your digestive system is stretched out and can work properly in open space.

the guys got a point. Im not sure there's a lot in it. If i were you i'd risk it for a bit and then, if you sustain any serious injury, you can come back and tell us.

Although, someone mentioned concentration and has a point with that. I read a report that was done recently that said concentration was key to a healthy diet. You shouldn't read whilst eating, or watch TV, as it did something to your metabolism and meant you'd be likely to be fatter. If you're to assume that the standing up involves distractions, then it would be better to sit down and eat normally, but that is what comes with standing rather than the standing itself.
