A quick question: If you were over the age of consent, but the girl you were with was under, what would you do? Go about things as if you were both over the age or stick to the letter of the law? If there has been a thread on this before, Im sorry, can someone just post the link here?
Well if you're 16 and only 7 months older than her just wait. It can't be that long! It'll save hassle and when the time is right you'll be able to make sure you're both ready. Don't rush into it!
Lots of countries have much lower ages of consent than the UK. Italy is 14, Spain is 13 for instance. Don't know if that's illegal or not though...
also in japan where im from, its 13.
i was 14 when i lost my virginity(this was in england btw). the guy was 14 too. The only thing we had to worrry about basically was that parents would find out. seriously, there is a v small chance that ppl would press charges unless it was rape rape or u are more than 5 years older than her.
The only thing thats wrong is if u have sex and she isnt ready. and if u had to question it, it was probably wrong.
If you're close in age - as in you just turned 16 but she's still 15.5 then i doubt i'd worry all that much because I'm guessing if her parents found out they'd understand.... kinda I mean obviously only if you're ready - don't go bonking just cos you're old enough to But if you're more than a year older than her then i'd say wait wait wait
my friend who was 19 had sex with a girl he thought was 18. she said she was ect. she also said she was on the pill and encourages him not to use protection... he was pretty drunk.
anyway... few months down the line... he was in court... she was broken down and pregnant and 14 years old and her parents blamed my friend and she said he raped her... after a while is the case she decided she didn't want to charge but being under 16. it was her parents choice now. who had encouraged her to say he raped her in the 1st place. she lost this kid (she was frikkin 14!!!! there not really equiped to carry a child!) i can't remember the end of the case...
but in short.. things can get stick if you mess with the law.
i lost mine when i was 15. b/f was 18. simply... no one knew realy. so you can risk it and jump for it and either land some were soft and yummy... or in the fire.
If you have reason to believe they are over 16 then you shouldn't be i trouble. theres a girl who comes i my regular bar, she's 15 but cause she's there in a bar looking 18 anyone that slept with her, she can't say it was statutory rape unless they knew her ag. because technically she is posing as an 18 year old. unless it is rape rape, but then you all understand. we are talking about consented sex.
urgh, my bf had sex with a 15 year old in the loos at a club (classy) when he was 19. I say this makes him a rapist! But he says he assumed she was old enough to be in a club. Pfff. Men.
depends on the situation really. i don't regret loosing it at 15. the idiot i was with maybe.. but it was a good 1 year and a bit relationship. lol.
I'm not saying it was wrong for you. But what i think is that this person had to ask other people (on TSR) so hes obviously having doubts about the whole thing and thinking that its not right.
People grow up too quickly these days! I think its awful people wanting to loose their virginity at 14 or whatever! You have the rest of your life to sleep with people!
Lots of countries have much lower ages of consent than the UK. Italy is 14, Spain is 13 for instance. Don't know if that's illegal or not though...
Then again, Spaniards lose their virginity at a much older age, about 18 or 19. They don't need an age of consent like ours because kids there are more informed. Unlike here, they don't just do it because it's a naughty and taboo thing to do, because in those countries, there's little taboo around it.
I think it's technically considered as rape - but a lawyer on here might know more about that.
I thought I'd take the opportunity to spell out what the law says about sex, just so everyone knows for sure - I've heard so much b*ll*cks on this!
So here goes:
1. The age of consent for sex between a MALE and a FEMALE: - England, Scotland and Wales - 16 - Northern Ireland - 17
HOWEVER, Crown Prosecution Service guidelines state that persons having sex under 16 with other under 16 year olds will not normally be prosecuted, UNLESS there is evidence or coercion or foul play
2. The age of consent for anal sex between a MALE and a FEMALE: - England and Wales - 18 - Scotland - 16 - Northern Ireland - illegal - no age of consent
3. It is an offence to intentionally and sexually 'touch' any person under 16 (this includes penetration) - A person aged 18 or over found guilty of this offence is liable for up to 14 years imprisonment - A person aged under 18 found guilty of the offence is liable for up to 5 years imprisonment, UNLESS it can be shown that he/she believed the other party to be over 16
4. There are NO specific laws concerning the age of consent for sex between a FEMALE and a FEMALE; but: - England - Some laws suggest that both females must be over 16 - Northern Ireland - Some laws suggest that both females must be over 17
5. Certain sex-related things are outright illegal: - Having sex with a close blood relative - Having sex in a public place - Having sex for financial gain (prostitution)
6. Other sex-related legal information: - Under the ABORTION ACT 1967, a termination can be carried out lawfully in England, Scotland or Wales up to the 24th WEEK of pregnancy - In England, Scotland and Wales, the financial responsibility for a child is the father's, and this can be enforced through the Child Support Agency
Under the SEXUAL OFFENCES (AMENDMENT) ACT 2000:
* The age of consent for sex between a MALE and a MALE was lowered from 18 (SEXUAL AFFENCES ACT 1967) to 16 with effect from June 2000. If EITHER or BOTH of the parties is under 16, the parties OVER 16 are guilty of a crime
* HOMOSEXUAL sex is illegal at ANY AGE if there are more than two people involved
* Sexual intercourse is illegal where ANY person over 18 has sex with ANY person under 18 (homosexual OR hetersexual), if the person over 18 is in a 'position of trust in relation to the younger party' - in which case such person will be guilty of a crime (unless they are married).
* It is illegal for a MALE of ANY age to have sex with a FEMALE who is under 16 (England, Scotland, Wales) or 17 (Northern Ireland)
* If a MALE OVER 10 OR FEMALE OVER 16 has sex with a MALE OR FEMALE UNDER 13, the person over 16 can be charged with statutory RAPE, despite whether or not the sex was consentual, since a person under 13 is legally incapable of giving consent UNLESS: a) the parties believe themselves to be married (even if they are not legally married); or b) Where a male under 23 has sex with a girl under 16, he may have a valid defence should be able to show that he has never previously been prosecuted for the same offence and that, at the time of having sex, he believed the girl to be 16 or over
Complicated isn't it! Basically, it's best to wait until your both able to legally consent to sex
I just don't think someone who is 16+ should be having sex with someone who is underage. They should frankly know better.
I disagree. Some underage people actually feel ready, and are mature enough to handle it.
I was one of them, I was underage (14) and my boyfriend was 16, but we knew what we were doing and were sensible about it, it wasn't some seedy perverted thing! I loved him, and he loved me, it was as simple as that really. There was no 'should know better' element to it. Although it does sound like quite a large age difference, he was only a year and a half older than me, and I was somewhat more mature than most people that age. And it can't have been a bad thing to do, we're still together now at 18 and 19!
I don't think that anyone can make such sweeping generalisations about relationships of which they're not a part. Its entirely up to the couple themselves to decide if and when they want to have sex.
