LLB Law at RGU

Apparently there are only 40 places on offer. I got a conditional offer yesterday (about time too!), and I was wondering if anyone else had got an offer (or applied). Although the reputation of the uni for the LLB course is quite good (number 33 in the 2010 Times Uni guide), I'm concerned about the overall reputation; a third come from the lowest social classes (I'm not being snobby by the way, its just that I go to an English Public school).

Sounds kinda like you're being snobby to me...

If you want to work in business law then go for RGU, it's got a better business reputation. If not, go to Aberdeen. Oh and if you do the joint hons legal studies and politics, they will probably try and discourage you because the workload is a nightmare. Just go for straight law.

You're not being snobby? Oh the irony.

Snobby ********.
I seriously wasn't being snobby! But if you compare RGU with somewhere like Edinburgh then you can see the difference! RGU is my back-up choice.

I would class myself as being in the lowest "social class" of this country, but I've also got an unconditional offer to study law at a number of Universities.
What sort of "image" do you have of "lower class students"? We're not all like the sterotype you seem to hear of you know, and I bet we're more fun also. You shouldn't base your thoughts on "class".

I've accepted RGU as my firm choice with an unconditional offer. Anyone else do that course?
Firstly, i think you are being snobby , ok the people may come from lower class backgrounds but they must be smart to get into law at whatever university so i highly doubt there will be many neds on the course
Secondly i believe RGU is v good for law (im not applying for it btw just saying what ive heard) apparentley they have a court room in the uni so its more practical and you get a good feel for what the job will be like
DONT do law at RGU!!! Law is an ancient subject and thus should be studied at an ancient University!! I dont think your being snobby at all, as a LLB student at Aberdeen Uni i can tell you know that many of my professors mock RGU!! But aside from that they dont have the best options in terms of honours courses, which is not something you'll be thinking of yet but when the time comes you'll appreciate a bigger selection which you would find at Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh. RGU does not use the term School of Law, its prefers to put Law within the School of Business which says a lot, RGU is good like you say at Business qualifications and things like nursing etc but definitely not for Law!!
I agree. Thats why I'm going to accept the LLB Law course at Aberdeen. I never meant to sound snobby, but I personally think the university you choose is really important; it says a lot about you and your future.

It's also a very modern subject and changes every day so why should where it is studied at matter to the level you will get taught at? Just because the building is older doesn't mean they are any better at teaching law than RGU is. RGU is a farely new university and only started graduating law students in 2004, so you can't really judge just now can you? Of course other Universities are going to have a better reputation, they have more statistics. Also, if you'd read any of the Best University Guides I think you'll find RGU coming quite high.
RGU offers a more modern approach to Law than that of AU. In all fairness, the way the traineeship market is I don't actually think it matters what University you studied Law at as when it comes to interviews employers are looking for you to have something that makes you stand out from the crowd. The question of what University you are at, I don't think,no longer matters.

RGU is a more modern university that’s constantly working with industry professionals to offer you the best education they can whilst also preparing you for when you leave university, they also allow you to study abroad and undertake placement and if you stay on for an extra year you can graduate with 2 degrees whereas Aberdeen just lets you do straight law with nothing to show but an honours classification. I like both but RGU gives you better prospects
