New contact lenses

My optition has just given me some new contact lenses to try. They are monthly toric ones which you can where all the time. I used to have the toric ones which I could just where for 10 hours per day.

I forgot to ask the lady some questions like can you where them in the shower and what do I do if I want to take them out? Any ideas? Thanks.

normally u can wear them in the shower. i wear mine in the shower, just make sure u dont get loads of water in ur eye or the lense will come out.

if u want to take them out, put them in a pot of saline solution. they should have given u some at the opticians. i think its best that u take them out at least once a day to give ur eyes time to breathe, or u might get some infection. i know i did :frown:

hope that helps

It's a good idea to take them out before taking a shower. If water enters your eyes, it is instinctive to rub your eyes, which could dislodge your contact lenses. Just store them in a lens solution (eg Renu) for 5 minutes but read the leaflet before you do this.
I never wear mine in the shower, have done before...but they become all dry and stick to your eyes, and when you try to then take them out its painful.

So...I woulden't recommend showering in them!!

I wear mine in the shower and never ever had any problems, just close your eyes when you wash your hair, which I do anyway. As for wearing them all the time, I never ever wear them at night, if I doze off in them when I wake up I go really blurry eyed for a while. Its bad to wear them all the time anyway.

no, you can't wear them in the shower, they shouldn't come in2 contact wiv water!

if you want to take them out? did she not explain what you have to do? or do you mean, where to store them and stuff and how much of that liquid thingy to add with it?

No one ever told me against it and I'm still alive.
I don't wear mine in the shower. Wouldn't want to lose them down the plug hole/get shampoo on them
I always shower with mine in too. Although I have non-disposable hard lenses so i spose it might be different.

They don't come out that easily, its more of a chore to get them out.

I always wear mine in the shower, its done my no harm...what would happen if you were caught in a huge rain storm?!

I know you're not supposed to wear them from longer thant 12 hrs a day, as you need to let your eyes breathe, but apart from that they're for everyday wear and showering is everyday...

I guess unless you're optician has specifically said NOT to wear them in the shower, it would be ok. As for them not coming into contact with water, I'm pretty sure most disposable lenses are mostly made up of water so it should be ok, plus like StriatedCentiede said, we cry sometimes! lol

When you take them out I'd just put them in your container with saline. I have pink/blue 10-10 so I can't put mine in the pink without waiting 10 mins to rinse them, but then it depends on your solution, you might use all in one solution, which would be different.

If you're really worried go and see your optician, he/she will reassure you
Actually my optician said specifically not to wear them swimming or in the shower unless I was certain I wouldn't get water in them. I didn't ask why, maybe it was just in case they got washed out and I lost them?

i dont have toric lenses (i dont i know what that means... ) but just normal daily disposables and i wear them in the shower, swimming and have also worn them when diving about in the sea from pedalos! also i have worn them fine for 48 hours with one nights sleep and still been to see fine/no infections/eyes feel fine.
ive got monthly ones. wear them in the shower but usually dont because i take them out before i shower at night and havent put them in before i shower in the morning, but i have a few times during the day with no problems. all i do is take them out after 10/12 hours or when my eyes are tired and pop them in the solution stuff. then it takes 3 hours before you should use them again. if you sleep with them then it crusts in your eye as it needs air....so dont sleep in them lol! what are this toric things?? can you sleep in them too?! i hate having to put my contacts in even though i have no problem i just dont look forward to it at all.

Toric lenses are for people with astigmatism. The eye is a slightly different shape so needs a toric lens.

The toric lenses, if I'm right, have a little invisible weight in the bottom so they turn the right way up

All lenses are different so it's essential you talk to your optician. Some you can wear all the time but equally some will destroy your eyes if you do. Mine are monthlies, soft 'mid water' so I can wear them up to ten hours a day. The 'high water' ones you can wear...eighteen....hours a day...maybe. Something like that. They're a little more expensive though.

I don't wear mine in the shower, but if I get in and forget they're in, I just screw my eyes up until I'm out.

I've never lost a lens in public (I've lost them in my bathroom) but occasionally I rub my eye and the lens migrates to the corner of my eye, hurts, and makes me think it's fallen out. Two or three times I've had to run off to the loo in school - "my lens has moved!" One time my maths teacher thought I said, "My nose has moved", as I streaked out towards the loo, and asked the class what it meant...

Mine don't

How do they work against astigmatism then? A lens of any sort has to be the right way up to correct astigmatism.

To my knowledge the contacts don't correct it they just allow you to see.
