The Student Room Group

Are mini-fridges allowed in RHUL halls?

Question says it all really! I have quite a restricted diet and there are some things I need for medical reasons and I was hoping I'd be able to keep them in my room just in case anyone pinched them for whatever reason! But I heard that mini fridges aren't allowed and just wanted to check in advance with current students so I can sort something out in time.
Thanks

No they are not. However, one of my blockmates last year had one in his room and when it came time for a room inspection he put it in the pantry! The cleaners/warden either didnt realise that it was in the pantry or werent bothered. I know if they do find a minifridge in your room they will confiscate without question. My mate just got lucky!

Some universities let you have them for medical reasons, holloway might be one of them.

Why wouldn't they let us have mini fridges?

Perhaps but there is always a communal fridge that can be used for med purposes (who would still medicine from a fridge!!).

The excuse they throw up for not allowing mini-fridges is something to do with wattage allowance in each room, which is complete and utter bullsh*t!

I'm planning to have one in my room in my second year. I cannot trust the communal fridge cos there's always some idiot who steals food at night (like me, last year lol :p: )

Yup, Royal Holloway apparantly doesn't allow you to have a mini-fridge...

but

I don't

give

two

Hmm thanks
My stuff for medical reasons isn't medicine, but I have ME and it's something I've found that makes me feel better, which people might still want to steal!
My friends are students at the moment, and they all pinched other people's food from the fridge when they were in halls!
I only eat a few different things, and if someone ate my free-range chicken for example, I'd be stuck!
Don't know whether to bring the fridge anyway and hope I don't get caught, or ask RHUL if I can have it for medical reasons... Or just wait and hope I'm in a flat with lovely people who would never dream of nicking someone else's stuff! Hmm....
