re: engine management light on corsa light

Guys,

I recently bought a corsa, life model (05 plate). It been nearly 3months since I've been driving the vehicle, and the engine management light (yellow colour) stays on; without flashing or changing to red colour. The light has been on since I've bought the car, and I did not take any notice of the warning until a friend told me about it.

I'm going to take the car to the garage this week; but can someone please tel me more information what the purpose of the engine management light, and what problems may it caused to the vehicle.

Also, will it cost alot of money to get the problem sorted?

All the information will be very helpful

Thank you very much for all the help.

got the same problem on my bro's car, meh still drives how it should so its fine :top:...is it the car with the spanner through it in yellow?!

what ive heard is that you need the ecu flashing and this can be done by disconnecting from the battery for 15-20mins, not done it myself cos the car's fine :yep: but be warned it can reset your cd player so make sure you have the code...if not then just take it to the garage

Take it to a garage and ask them?

There is no yellow spanner through the engine management light at the moment. In addition, I will be taking to the garage to get the vehicle checked this week.

The engine management light comes on whenever the Engine Control Unit records a fault, until that fault is cleared using diagnostic equipment. It could be something fairly trivial which won't cause any harm to the engine (one of my parents' cars showed the ECU light when the brake pedal switch failed) or it could be something serious and potentially damaging your engine. From the information you've given there's no way of knowing which it is or how much it will cost.

You'll need to plug in a diagnostic unit to find out what fault the ecu has logged.
The fact you a) have to ask this question and b) openly admit to ignoring a warning light without investigating imediately suggests you havent got the skills to sort this yourself.

Take it to vauxhall.
Go to a dedicated website such as vxon.com or corsa-c etc and ask there, these guys are just guessing (i.e. saying that disconnecting the battery will remove fault codes, which it won't because if it did it'd take the total mileage with it, which it doesn't).

These websites will tell you about the paper clip trick or failing that there will be someone in the local area with an opel scanner/opcom diagnostic kit which will scrub off the codes for the princely sum of £5, £83 cheaper than any Vauxhall dealer.

Then I'd better remove my link to corsa-c as disconnecting the battery does not remove fault codes and the pedal trick only reads the fault codes in a series of flashes, it does not remove them. I wouldn't of bought an opel scanner if it was this simple.

no the pedal trick i mentioned as only meant and intended to show that you can ONLY read them, sorry if i didnt make it clear...id obviously get it read by a scanner and then go from there :top:
Someone please help. I have a opel 1.4 2005 c. I just had the clutch replaced. Sinve then my engine light comes on and my car starving for fuel at low rpm. As soon as i pump the accelerator pedal it jerks then pulls away. Diagnostics say no error. Very frustrating

That's a contradiction. The EML wouldn't illuminate if there wasn't a stored fault code.
