Hull York Medical school, Is it any good?

What do you think of HYMS?

it is a relatively new school and to me there are alot of risks involved not to mention some potential advantages. Well yes, med schools are good in many ways but what about comparing it to other uk med schools??

This question is really directed to those lucky ones attending HY.

+ What do you think of the course? Is it good because the course is new and its tailor made to suite the current demands of a doctor, or is it bad in the sense that it hasnt 'got it right yet'

Im a bit worried about the coordination of the school in general. It seems that because HYMS cosists of two schools, there's a lot of room for errors or information to fall out of cracks during coordination.

The reasons for this is that I went to a UK fair this year, and there were 10 places available through clearing!!! for intl students. And they started off with 10 places available to intl students.
Now I dont know if its because no one applied last year, or no one met their criteria and were rejected.

But that has got me thinking..

Hey, I'm a HYMS third year.

PM me if you have specific queries - can't reply right now as I'm a bit busy.

All medical schools in the uk regardless maintain very good standards of teaching, the gmc would not allow them to exist otherwise.

or newcastle and durham?

perhaps wif 'ucl' and the the royal free?

barts AND the royal london?

and heheh not forgetting imperial's 3 old seperate medical schools?

and..oh.. kings, guys, and thomases?

and oxford and cambridge and its split over the country clinical schools?

seems to compare to well to them then...

Well, im mainly interested in their standard of teaching, and their course.
Yup i know that all med schools are good and must reach a certain level of academic standard.
But what i want to know are the advantages and disadvantages of studying at HYMS

Reply 10

oh, i fort you asked for it compared to other med schools.

well a lot depends on what you want.

tell us that and you should get the perfect answer.

That was 6 years ago. They're probably not there anymore.
