I've just rang up and been released from my firm choice of uni as I want to go to my insurance. They said they would ring UCAS now. Do I need to call my insurance uni or is UCAS going to be sorting it out?

I'd call them up just so you can be sure that everything has been sorted out properly.

If you don't mine me asking, what were your firm and insurance universities?

thats cool, i should be moving up to newcastle university this september if I meet my offer. I've never actually been to Newcastle, but i've heard so many nice things, so i can understand why you'd want to stay at home.

I've been in the same situatino as you before (i.e. got released from my firm choice and want to go to my insurance choice). All I did was contact both your firm and insurance university and UCAS.

CALL UCAS AND YOUR INSURANCE! THEY DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE YOU, UNLESS THEY HAVE AGREED TO DO SO!
