Invade North Korea.

Singapore calls on the UN to strongly criticise North Korea for its human rights abuses and calls on freedom loving countries to invade and liberate it. It is a threat to the far East and the world and must be crushed.

Who will be invading whom

Singapore will invade N. Korea with the support of the UN and troops from all freedom loving states.

What the reasons are for doing so

1) It is a brutal regime
2) It is a growing nuclear threat
3) Markets can be opened

Any ramifications not invading will have on the International Community

1) East Asia will contine to live in fear from this rouge state who no one can trust.
2) Many people have relatives in N. korea as well as hostages. These people should be freed. Oterwise what is the point of being a citizen of a state.

On what grounds is Singapore calling for an offensive war? The United Nations Charter only permits war in self-defense and collective self-defense.

China would also wish to remind the international community that any actions taken against its neighbors without the express permission of the United Nations Security Council will be viewed as an act of aggression against China.

Is a nasty brutal regime which is becoming more of a threat everday as it continues developing nuclear weapons. We have a duty to people not brutal regimes. If the UN does not view a nuclear threat as sufficient the charter should be changed. Brutal regimes should be crushed.

It is up to the people of each state to decide how they will be governed. If you wish to remain in the UN while encouraging acts of aggression, you should move to have the UN Charter changed. When the Security Council next convenes, put the issue up for debate.

Exactly. I want them to have that chance.

Correction: liberation.

When is this?

This is certainly debatable now, and we don't know for certain. Whilst i haven't read up on this hardly at all, we would strongly oppose any military action at this stage.

It is not up to foreign actors to decide how the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is chosen.

Correction: liberation.

According to UN GA Resolution 3314::

Aggression is the use of armed force by a State against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of another State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Charter of the United Nations, as set out in this Definition.

When is this?

Make a thread right now, and ask it to be moved to a Security Council sub-forum once it is created.

FYI, the following countries are currently members of the SC:

Algeria
Argentina*
Benin
Brazil
China*
Denmark
France*
Greece*
Japan*
Philippines
Romania
Russian Federation*
United Kingdom*
United Republic of Tanzania
United States*

* = the country is currently represented in this Model UN

To pass a resolution in the SC, 3/5 of the SC members (5 out of 8 right now) have to vote for it and none of the 5 permanent member veto it.

Would China veto it?
Perhaps its easier for Singapore to get funding for an invasion from global corporations with the promise of resources and markets for them.

China retains the right to act in ways consistent with its obligations to its allies and to international law.

That might be difficult considering that China is responsible for a larger portion of Singapore's exports than any other state in the world.

You arn't being Islamaphobic are you?
Mexico does not wish to commit itself to a costly war, which is not absolutely neccessary.

We have other priorities and difficulties internally, and will thus oppose the war.
