Ok firstly-its a bank so suit.
Secondly-how many days is it?
Thirdly-you need to wear the right colours to show you are up to date with work fashion effortlessly and take pride in your appearance.
Black pinstriped suit all seasons-absolutly fantastic-but as a trouser suit (the skirt ones look awful-too frumpy). Pinstripes should be white, pink or blue (green pinstripes won't be back in till next year) and wear shirt/blouse/handbag and any accessories to match the pinstripe colour.
However if you choose to go for a one colour suit: red = x, blue = x, beige/cream =, black =, grey (lighter or darker tone) =-coming back for winter-remember people its going to be a black, grey, white and tame colour winter, purple = x.
If on the other hand you choose to dress casual smart for this you need to do it the good girl way so we are talking a black, grey or cream skirt that goes just over your knees perhaps with slight waist decoration. With this you need to wear flat shoes-in a colour to match your top. The only way you should wear heels if they are a light pastel colour which definitly match your top. Flat shoes are good as they are comfortable but don't pick something like those ballerina pump things-you need to be smart and take good care of them so I recommend splashing out. Ok tops-light demure colours that will collaborate nicely with a cardigan (H&M do lovely ones) i.e. pink cardigan with white top or blue (light) top with white cardigan. A brooch finishes this of nicely though take care with gold style ones (they can get nasty).
Finally shoes for suits should be the bees knees-you can always tell what a person is like by their shoes (ie if they don't take of them they're a bit slack). They should be of a moderate 1-2 inch height, match the main colour of the suit and pointy at the front.
All the high street places-new look h&m, topshop, dotty ps, wallis etc do these and for a good price to-though if you really want to splash out with a good suit-I got news that Planet were going to do a temporary suit for £100 deal which is wow since they're so expensive.
Anyway hope this has been of some use-
Ruth.

I think personally that with shirts and nice smart-casual skirts you have to be careful for instance I have this lovely black skirt that fits the catergory and is ideal for work experience but doesn't suit a shirt on its own so I wear the shirt under a black v-neck with some brighter coloured jewellary to perk it up. The casual cardigans (in dark red, blue, green, pink, white etc) are always handy because they also look ace with jeans and most other things-even with a nice dress for later evening-definitly an investment. You can wear them on their own or with a nice plain coloured top (again which can be used for loads of other outfits). If you watch Nigella on the telly she pulls this look of wonderfully. You can't beat a nice smart top-I would leave shirts for suits. Just make sure that you always do look smart and presentable not slack with clothing and don't overdo it on jewellary as it is a bank :p:

errr.... shes going to work at a bank its not a fashion show!!

jus wear what u feel comfortable in. wear a suit if u want but if you dont want to dont wear one!
general rule: no jeans no trainers.
the rest is seriously down to u.
jus smart trousers and a shirt will do fine. and u dont even have to wear a shirt just wear a smart top. if you feel uncomfortable wearing a suit you're not going to do good work.

dont panic theres no need. and as helpful as im sure ruth is trying to be, they wont look down on you just because u might wear 'last seasons colours'.

relax have fun well done on the job
Why didn't you just call up the bank and ask............

Dont they teach common sense at schools !

The more information a girl can have at her finger tips the better.

theres information and theres giving the impression that what you what you wear is almost as important as the work you'll actually be doing..

but its cool that ur being helpful.

If you are confident and have the ability you don't need to look all super neat and smart.

For me its just black trousers and a shirt that is decent and thats it, i can go anywhere i please except serious meetings and interviews i bring a suit in that case. But in other areas who wants to be bathing in a 30plus sunshine on a suit, not me anyways. hell with that.

Its not all about your dress, you need to be comfortable, and your confidence is like your second dress. A confident person and one who knows he has the knowledge doesn't need to impress by what to wear but shines from the personality.

If you are accepted into a bank dependng what area you work in, having suit will not get you wrong, but most of my friends who do interns in banks or when i visit bank, i rarely put a suit fully, maybe a tie and rest incase for a meeting or something that requires such an official look. But really, stay comfortable.

i hate it when people don't take fashion seriously. most people that work in banks-mind you i only see the private investors section not the front floor dress rubbishly. i saw this girl with a blue pin striped suit [last season sale stock from planet] with a pink top!!!bleugh. i happen to think it is important and shows that you actually care.

never judge a book by its cover.

besides in a bank depends where you work, it doesn't mean you need to be top notch in look. people get tired of it dressing all neat and tidy everyday, really most don't care as long as you wear decently and accordingly in a bank, no need to go too detailed of what tie in what season etc. =)

Dressing properly is necessary in sales people to some other areas, but theres no point putting such a huge effort on your dress, it is your personality that shines in the bank, not some model job.

Alot of people do. However some people take it too seriously, so that it takes over their personality and it's all they ever think about.
What a terrible thing to do! Oh my God, you must have just died from her lack of taste.
So...she's not allowed to wear it, for fear of being badly judged by people like you, because it was last season's..."bleugh", I say. Btw, you can look timeless and fantastic without wearing the latest trend. This is much more suitable for corporate jobs. Because, don't forget, they are actually there to do their jobs, and not just flounce around looking pretty.

hmmm fashion is not my personality i just like the way people can express themselves with it-it says so much a about a person especially their shoes-you can define person's personality with their shoes-believe me you can, this is not just me being a ditz. Fashion is interesting and should be consulted when possible-but people who think fashion is a number one priority are deluded. I don't even do fashion! DOn't intend to either-I would like to do law
