I took Microgynon 30 and everyday I had a migraine so I stopped taking them. I keep meaning to go back to the Doctors to get some other sort of pill or contraceptive, but I never seem to get round to it. *Bad me.*

I will be interested to know whether Mercilon has the same sort of side-affects, too.

My girlfriend has been taking this pill for over 2 years and has had no problems what so ever. However, with all medication, different types affect different people.

I'm not impressed I'd been put on a low dosage pill and within a week I'd lost hair and I swapped onto another low dosage pill and I was still losing hair so I've given up. Its horrible periods or hairloss not a good choice.

If the pill doesn't work on you ask them to put you on Mefenamic Acid - twas the only thing that'd control my periods for years - it's a miracle drug!!

Yeah mefenamic acid is great for controlling period pains, but its not a contraceptive. So you still have to take your pill.

I've been on it for over two years and it has worked perfectly. I get much shorter and lighter periods and less PMS too!

Ah I was kinda directing it at Tatty - since she said she wasn't taking anything

That's because I'm not actually doing anything - I'm 19 and still a virgin.  I went on the pill because I won't sleep with my boyfriend with only a condom, but the pill really didn't work with me at all - it put me off sex and gave me migraines so I stopped taking it. I keep meaning to go back to the doctors to see what else is available, but I haven't got round to it with exams and coursework, but now that's all over I should.

Probably cause like someone already said it's got exactly the same active ingredients in as microgynon and microgynon is cheaper ... although saying that I started on ovranette too but I had mass hysteria and thought it was giving me blood clots so my GP changed me for piece of mind :p:

But yeah, there is manufacturing problems with overanette at the moment, was reading in the pharmaceutical journal it's gonna be out for at least a couple of months.

i got headaches on microgynon as well and my doc recommended yasmine because its supposed to be much better for headaches, skin and some people have lost weight on it! i've had it for a couple of weeks and so far its much better, haven't had a headache yet. its much more expensive though, so some doctors don't like prescribing it until you've tried some others

according to my medical book of drugs (i work in a hospital) ovranette and microgynon cost exactly the same, £2.82 for three months supply. yasmin, however, costs £14.70 for 3 months... ouch.

it doesnt necessarily make you lose weight, it can reduce water retention and therefore bloating, giving the impression of weight loss around the middle.

a lot of people have a lot of bad things to say about yasmin. a lot of people have a lot of good things to say too. its just how it works.

if you go on www.medications.com and search for yasmin, you will see hundreds of people that are completely dissatsified and hate yasmin. They are convinced that because all the other people that posted had problems, everyone must be, and so are trying to get it taken off the market. Which, quite frankly, is just ridiculous. the people that write and look into these sorts of things are the ones that have had problems, thats why it may always seem like *everyone* has had problems because they're the only ones writing about it.

when i started on microgynon i found a similar site with lots of people saying how it wrecked their life etc. its easy to fall for, making you think there's sometihng wrong with the pill etc, when really lots of people have problems with all pills, and many more don't, its just those ones that are keeping quiet!

anyway, not sure why i just started ranting about that. People onj that medications site got on my nerves though, telling and advising people to never take it, when it could be perfectly fine for someone else.

Yeah just realised I read my BNF wrong  glanced at it the other day and saw the prices ... but now I've looked at it properly, the microgynon30 was only a 21 tab strip ...

I was on yasmin for 9 months, then dianette for 2 1/2 years, then marvellon for three months (which made me fat), then yasmin for three months, now I'm starting mercilon today. Hope it doesn't cause hair loss cos I already have no hair.
