United Red Front

On behalf of the Republic of Venzuela, I would like to invite all like minding leftist countries to join the United Red Front. I envisage this group of nations to work together in the areas of education, healthcare and environmentalism as well as assisting each other in matters of defence when faced with threats in the hostile world we live in. Democracy is to be encouraged and the will of the People must prevail.

Perhaps when you refer to socialism as something defining rotten economy, you probably mean communism (although I am sure that you understand the differences as we have discussed this before). A socialist movement of the modern times is of views more moderate than the older socialists, when world trade was not as developed as now. If you read the programme of any leading socialist party, take the Bulgarian Socialist Party, which won the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria only two weeks ago, you would see that our views on trade and economy are not by any means useless and detrimental to the welfare of the country.

It is necessary to establish that a socialist government may not be as agile as a capitalist one, but this only stretches as far as the economic discussions go. A socialist government stretches beyond the average salary, the low rate mortgages and good loans. It cares for the community, it cares for preserving traditions and patriarchical values in multi-religious and cultural societies.

The position of Bulgaria has always been clear. Bulgaria must and will join the modern Europe, of which it has been part ever since the concept of Europe was put in use.

I may also point out that the American ambassador in Bulgaria, Mr. James Pardew is kindly asked to employ a more diplomatic language and only to go as far as his duties are concerned. Comments such as

We are watching you.

ina warning manner when referring to Bulgaria's progress in covering the articles of the EU convention are not acceptable for a politician, if he may be called so, in his position.

On a different note, Bulgaria has always pledged its support to NATO and the US in all latest wars against terror and oppression - airfields and soldiers were at your service both in Yougoslavia and now in Iraq.

The Republic of Venezuela would like to clarify that we are a democratic socialist Front who wish to cooperate with other progressive countries and organisations for the good of the people. We do not wish to see economic destruction, but we do wish to see the wealth of coutries being used to benefit the people who live there. We support Bulgaria in its wish to join the EU and hope it can be a nother voice inside Europe for a democratic and Social European Union.
