Fiction Writing.

It's hard to finish a novel. Then it's harder to find an agent. Then it's harder to get an editor. Then it's even harder to sell. And then you have to go around again.

This doesn't apply if you're JK Rowling or Stephen King.

Special Forces.

Something like 10% of the successful applicants [who are like 20% of the original application base] actually pass into the SAS after selection, IIRC.

I dunno, maybe famous singer? Like, if you look at one of those shows like X Factor, there's so much talent entering, and people aww and oooh at them, but then most of them we don't see again, lucky exceptions being Leona and JLS.

Practising barrister / commercial solicitor.

It's easy enough to get on to a law degree programme, but to do well (law has the fewest 1sts and 2.1s) and then to get a pupillage / training contract and then get a tenancy / employment contract is very tough.

Qualified lawyers are a dime a dozen, so you really have to excel to do well. No wonder it's called an elitist profession. :frown:

I think any profession that is media-related is hard to get into.

For women or men?

Women: Whatever position Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in

Men: professional porn (straight).

1) The competition int hat industry is INTENSE
2) The pay for most jobs is ****.
3) You have to be able to...um.....do everything on demading, coming, erections, everything...with like a few seconds notice sometime
4) You have to keep it up in front of about 5-6 fat A/V nerds who are filiming you.
5) Unless You're ron jeremy or a select few others, once you hit 30 or 35 your career is done
6) You're practically unemployable afterwards
7) Relationships are a bitch if you in porn industry
8) As said, to become a tru pro porn star and not just n amateur, you need connections, a big ****, incredible self control, a hell of alot of luck, and many other things.

This made me  and my ego grow a little!

But I do agree with whoever said fiction writer/author - I used to aspire to become a published poet/writer and it is crazy hard to get any sort of acknowledgement, and even once you have an agent there's no guarantee of publication or success!

lol! What are the chances of being a solicitor??

I still want to be an author. First piece of advice: never give up. Second piece of advice: get a 'real' job to pay the bills.

Easily an astronaut. Where the hell do you get started?

Acting is also pretty much a failure of a career. Whether you get famous is pretty much luck of the draw and a large proportion of actors are living in debt. I suppose it's a pretty fun career though...

Becoming an airline pilot is also incredibly difficult since the easiest way is to have served in the army for half your life beforehand which is bloody hard in itself!

This! I even wanted to go into this and still do, but I thought engineering would be a much easier field to go into...
