Although I must confess a huge dislike of musicals and theatre (not in my soul in afraid!) I remember hearing "On my own" from Les Miserables and thought that was a beautiful song, though clearly not of the highest order!

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me for ever and forever

    ........................ I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone, the river's just a river
Without him the world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers

    Quite nice I think!

    Nightwish - Sleeping Sun lyrics

    The sun is sleeping quietly
    Once upon a century
    Wistful oceans calm and red
    Ardent caresses laid to rest

For my dreams I hold my life
For wishes I behold my night
The truth at the end of time
    Losing faith makes a crime

    I wish for this night-time
    to last for a lifetime
    The darkness around me
    Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
    Sleeping
    Weeping
    With you

    Sorrow has a human heart
From my god it will depart
I'd sail before a thousand moons
    Never finding where to go

Two hundred twenty-two days of light
Will be desired by a night
A moment for the poet's play
Until there's nothing left to say

    I wish for this night-time...

    I wish for this night-time...

I was just wondering what people thought on this?
I chose the word beautiful as to avoid "most sad", although potentially the song will be both. I guess it could be beautiful through its lyrics or melody, and would generallly be a really touching song.

    Im thinking
    Sade- Il be there
    The streets- Dry your eyes

    What do you think?

It definitelly has to be 'One Sweet Day' by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. The best ballad ever - it's so moving and emotional - there is no way you can beat this most beautiful song!
