I always think to make a truly great song you need beautiful melody, and nice change in key that just "does it" if you get me, and beautiful, deep lyrics

Some of my favourite would be:
Right here waiting - Richard Marx
Woman in Love - Barbara Streisand (sp?)
Wind Beneath my Wings - Betty Midly (not sure about her surname?)
China in your hand - T-Pau

Recently I quite liked James Blunt's You're Beautiful first time I've ever heard his stuff. Lovely music and lovely lyrics. Might hit my favourites list. Quite liked She Must be Loved by Maroon 5 Not what I'd call a "beautiful" song - but I like the lyrics.

I also quite like Phil Colins, even if I don't know many of his songs! Some of Whitney Houston's stuff I like.

There're others but they tend to be quite cold, with a tasteful twist in key that just makes it absolutely beautiful.

I love 'Right here waiting'. The Bette Milder ones are great too. I like some of the Carpenters ones too.
