Speak to your dentist - he or she may be able to refer you to an NHS orthodontist (though beware that there may be a waiting list). This is what happened to me, though I really didn't like the look of him and ended up going private.

I'm not sure about the costs on the NHS - I seem to remember being told that metal braces were cheaper (either free or £300, I'm afraid I don't remember exactly) but I would have to pay extra for ceramic (about £1,000). It may depend on where you live though.

Good luck!
the first braces i had did cost, they were £600 and i didn't wear them enough so they stopped fitting and we had to spend £600 again to get a different set.. now i've had train tracks for nearly a year though and my teeth are finally straightening!

I had braces when I was about 15, obviously being in full time education, they were free.

When I reached 18 I was told I would have to pay for dental treatment as I had left full time education, even though I was at Uni. I am registered with an NHS dentist but they refused when I asked, saying I would have to get it done privately.

I enquired last year about how much it would cost me to have braces again (as my teeth are wonky again because of wisdom teeth coming through) and they said it would cost about £3000-£4000 for the metal ones, and around £5000 for the Invisalign ones (clear braces). Think Im going to have to start saving!
