Nah, it doesn't work that way! It's a generalisation. You're putting the statistic to specific scenarios, and no statistics hold up when you do that. It seems about right to me that in 100 people, 10 of them will be gay. It's really not that big a figure...

It's not 1 in 10, that statistic came from a study which had really bad statistical technique, they were conducting in like health centres etc, at a time when HIV was exploding on the gay scene. Though at cambridge uni it's utterly mad what proportion is gay. Way more than 10%.

china would be a more accurate microcosm for the world actually, as china has more than 1/6th of the world's population. i think that visesh was about right when he said 10% of the world's population are gay.

look at it this way:

there are just over 6.2 billion people in the world.

therefore, worlds population = 10⁹ x 6.2 = 6,200,000,000
.:. 10% of 6.2 bil = 620 million (620,000,000).

620 million people in the world are gay. that sounds about correct to me. so 1/10 is about correct.

nah, china's population is around 1,306,313,812. although china has had a controlled birth rate, and death rate is in proportion, since the one child policy was enforced.

the figure is definitely more than that. i was quite ignorant to think that only 620 million people are gay. they're are at least 635 million gay men (i wouldn't be surprised is the figure was another 10 million more than this tbh).
